Re: Mint 17.2 KDE: KDE 4 or KDE 5?

Agreed that Plasma 5 distros have been a bit buggy and crashy, but has anyone tried the Tanglu version? Tanglu 3:- Chromodoris willani RC1 images daily-live images Its the best one I've come across and almost good enough to use as a 'daily'. No homerun or plasma smooth task icons in the repo's yet, ...

Only suggestion I can make is to try fiddling with the desktop theme, or the colour scheme in Application Appearance --> Colours.

Re: Printing with Epson xp-200

I have an Epson SX-200 and whenever the drivers in the kernel don't work, I go here -

avasys.jp
And that takes you here

Fill in the fields and search.
Download the .deb package and double click to install.
You might need to study the FAQ!

Good luck.

Re: Bootable USB Not Found in BIOS

When you boot the machine, the very first screen you see might say "Press F12 to choose boot device". Tap that key (or whichever one is stipulated, might also be F11, Esc or Del) to bring up a Bios pop-up menu. Choose your usb device with the up/down arrow and hit "Enter".

Re: Installs but will not boot

AIUI, MBR and GPT are types of partition tables on a disk. UEFI and BIOS are firmwares to get whatever is on said disk up and running. Try entering your BIOS settings and disabling UEFI if it is enabled. From Wikipedia The Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) (pronounced as an initialism U-E...

Re: installation, won't boot from USB

gmargo June 21st, 2011, 06:32 PM On my Asus EeePC, (with an AMI bios), I have to hit the Escape key during boot in order to get the option to boot from the USB. The "Removable Device" does not refer to the USB in my case. Presumably it refers to an attachable floppy or cdrom. This shows up on the b...

Re: installation, won't boot from USB

Try hitting F11 or F12 as it boots. There should be a key which gives you a bios popup which you can navigate with the up/down arrow keys.
The key varies on different machines.

Re: Win 7 & Linux Mint on SSD and HDD - problems to install

Don't know what you have going on there exactly, but if you put the line:
Error: attempt to read or write outside of disk 'hd0'
into your search engine, you will find a whole load of posts from people with similar problems. Maybe a fix there too.

Re: Win 7 & Linux Mint on SSD and HDD - problems to install

Delete 500MB /boot ext4 on SSD, install to ~23GB / ext4 on SSD and install grub to mbr of sda.
8Gb swap probably a bit exessive.

All linux systems have a home directory, but to determine whether it is on a separate partition, we need to see the output of sudo blkid or a screenshot from gparted 100Gb is way too big for a /root partition if you have a separate /home. 15-20Gb would be plenty. 2-4 Gb /swap would be big enough unl...

Not sure about your main question but it would be interesting to hear if you succeed in your task.
As a ps, laptop overheating is often simply a build-up of fluff in the fan exhaust tract. Easy to clear - just search youtube.
