Re: Video stream stops every 60 sec. audio okay
Never mind. Installed Mint XFCE and video works fine. If someone knows a fix for Mint Cinnamon I'll gladly switch back.

Video stream stops every 60 sec. audio okay
I'm running Mint 17.3 Cinnamon, and in YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and Netflix, the video stream stops very briefly every 60 seconds exactly while the audio stream continues. It happens the same in Firefox and Chrome, so it's clearly not a browser issue. Despite extensive searching I've found no le...

Linux security no longer a non-trivial issue?
After reading about the Turla Trojan on Linux, I'm concerned. Particularly eye-opening is the fact that the X system is apparently horribly insecure. See this PC World article: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2859122/your-linux-pc-isnt-as-secure-as-you-think-it-is.html I would surely love to see a st...

Dumb improvements that have never been done...
I would be profoundly grateful if the Mint dev team would make desktop icon labels automatically change to a light color when we choose a dark desktop background. I would even happier if new program icons, drive icons, etc. would automatically appear on my default (right-hand) monitor. Lastly, why m...

Thanks, Derek. That did it. I did a Malwarebytes scan as you suggested, and it revealed no problems. Will mark the issue solved.

Virus message on boot after installing Mint 17 RC [SOLVED]
On booting after installing Mint 17 RC 64-bit in a dual boot setup with Win 7 Pro, I get a warning message about a boot-sector virus: BootSector Write !! VIRUS: Continue (Y/N)? The virus warning didn't appear in Mint 16 on the same PC. It showed up immediately after I installed Mint 17 RC. It appear...

Re: Increase time before screen dimming - Mint 12
The solution posted by Maug Lee didn't work for me, perhaps because I didn't have exactly the same problem. I had dual monitors set to a solid blue background. The right-side monitor would dim almost immediately after booting Mint 13 Mate. The left monitor didn't dim. The right monitor was set as th...

Backup Windows 7 data files to a Linux partition? [SOLVED]
Having read about the recent scary Trojan that encrypts datafiles and demands a $300 ransom, I'm wondering if this would be a good security step: back up all Windows data to an external hard drive that is formatted as ext4. And maybe do the backups from Linux using some kind of encrypted backup. Am ...

Install Mint to external 2.5" USB HD enclosure
I have Mint 16 successfully installed to HD. I would like to install it to a laptop 2.5" hard drive in a USB enclosure. Problem is, the Mint live DVD doesn't see the external hard drive. My question: Can I install Mint to the 2.5" drive from inside my working Mint installation? (Background...

Thanks. Could be helpful - I find lots of relevant posts at the URL you suggested. Search results: http://bit.ly/1aVQVzY.
When I have time - seems unlikely in the near future - will check these guides.

Re: Mint 13 Live CD doesn't see external USB hard drive
Thinking it might be Mint that couldn't see the external USB hard drive, I tried three other distros: Puppy, CentOS, and OpenSuse, all latest versions. No luck, so it's definitely a Linux thing. Beats me.

Mint 13 Live CD doesn't see external USB hard drive
I'm trying to install Mint 13 LTS to a laptop hard drive in an external USB enclosure. Windows 7 can see the disk and contents, so I know the HD is readable. The problem is, the Mint live DVD can't see the drive. Neither could a Puppy Linux live CD that I tried. Seems like there ought to be a boot c...

Re: Install to external 2.5" drive, then put in laptop?
Boundlessly grateful for this masterful guide. I'm sure it will be useful to many who want to do the same thing, or similar. Thanks particularly for the warnings - it would be a nightmare if I accidentally chose the wrong partition and wiped out a desktop drive. Your assumptions about my hardware an...

Install to external 2.5" drive, then put in laptop?
I have a ThinkPad T43 laptop that won't boot from CD or USB, due to a problem I haven't been able to solve. I would like to install Mint to the HD. Can I put the laptop hard drive in a 2.5" enclosure, install Mint there, then stick the HD back in the laptop and boot Mint from it? Searched here ...

Mint 14 Cinnamon Dual Monitors - Not possible?
I've seen no authoritative guide to installing dual monitors in Mint 12, 13, or 14 Mate or Cinnamon. Tried 'em all. Simply using the Monitors function makes the Panel disappear, and the only forum threads that hint at a solution involve a nightmare of complex config possible solutions. (This is trul...

Re: Installer errors Linux Mint 13 Mate edition
Extraordinary that it's now Feb. 9, 2013 and nothing's been done about this. I wanted to use the LTE Mint 13 but was unable to install, as upon displaying this error the install hangs. Has anybody been able to install Mint 13?Enkouyami wrote:Are any devs looking into this problem?
