Reboot w/ nomodeset, open a terminal & type "sudo nvidia-xconfig"(no " "). This should create a basic xorg.conf file. You really shouldn't need to do that, but sometimes it seems to be needed. It is the easiest way I know to get the nvidia drivers working. Of course I'm lazy ...

I installed 13 cinnamon on 1 desktop & my laptop. I put the old hard drive w/ 12 back in the laptop. Cinnamon seems to be sluggish on it. I'd reinstall 12 on this desktop, but I really don't feel like messing with it. I guess as much as I hate to, I'll have to switch to xfce, never could get use...

Did you check out the thread directly below yours? If I understand it correctly, the update mangler either doesn't have proper premissions to run, or it runs before your network connection is up. I kind of bounced around a bit. Best to just check for updates within a terminal & ignore the update...
