Re: linux mint MATE 20 64 bit crashes randomly whenever doing anything graphical
Thanks - reverting the kernel to 5.4.047 helped. It has gone three days now without crashing. If I had an even earlier kernel I could probably eliminate it completely. Really I was hoping to bring this to the attention of those responsible for the kernel.

Re: linux mint MATE 20 64 bit crashes randomly whenever doing anything graphical
A couple of times when it happened I was working on code in a text editor (leafpad), then when I tried to do something, I would discover that the desktop is frozen. The inxi output is attached. me@me-Lenovo-ideapad-320-14IAP:~$ inxi -Fxxxrz System: Kernel: 5.4.0-47-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: ...

Re: linux mint MATE 20 64 bit crashes randomly whenever doing anything graphical
Sorry to stomp on someone else's thread, but I thought with the similarities between the two, they could be the same problem. It's not an automatic reboot, When the desktop freezes, it ignores the keys and freezes the cursor so all I know to do is press the power button. I thought it might be a retu...

Re: linux mint MATE 20 64 bit crashes randomly whenever doing anything graphical
Attached is the time span covering a crash and reboot. It doesn't appear to offer much enlightenment. The previous crash yesterday looks the same.

Re: linux mint MATE 20 64 bit crashes randomly whenever doing anything graphical
I will try. The journalctl -s didn't run with what you gave me that I copied and pasted, so I ran it as journalctl -r Could you direct me to instructions for how to navigate the log file in the terminal?

Re: linux mint MATE 20 64 bit crashes randomly whenever doing anything graphical
The log is attached. Note that a crash occurred this morning around 11am after which I downgraded the kernel to 5.4.047 on reboot.

Re: linux mint MATE 20 64 bit crashes randomly whenever doing anything graphical
I also have a crashing (desktop freezing) problem with Mint Mate 20. It seems to occur randomly. It doesn't seem to depend on memory usage. I have installed all the latest updates. I first noticed the problem after updating to the 5.4.047 kernel, but it only happened every few days. Now, after updat...

Re: Touchpad drivers
I posted about the random freezing problem of the touchpad on a Lenovo Ideapad 320, about a year ago. I tried many suggestions from this and other forums, but nothing fixed it; so I decided it must be a bug and to just wait patiently for a fix. Unfortunately, even though I have installed all automat...

Re: Touchpad not working on Teclast F7 laptop
My Lenovo touchpad freezes at random times. A temporary fix to restart the touchpad is to do do ctrl/alt/del with the keyboard. This brings up a dialog with options - the option on the left is "suspend". Navigate to this option using the left arrow key and hit enter. This will suspend the ...

Re: Cursor freeze on Mint 19
Don't know if this is related, but the earphone jack stopped working. The same (temporary) fix that I use to restore cursor movement (suspend, then unsuspend), also worked for this problem.
P.S. Installing kernel 4.15.0-30 had no effect on the cursor freeze problem.

Re: Kernel #24 problems
I hope that there will soon be a kernel release that fixes the problem of Synaptic touchpad freezes that affects LM 19 with the default kernel apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics and relog, but please make your own threads for your own issues. I had tried apt install xserver-xorg-input-synapti...

Just an edit -
The title should be 'Touchpad freeze on Mint 19" since the entire touchpad, including the clicker buttons stops working

Cursor freeze on Mint 19
Cursor freeze (only the cursor) - I have a Lenovo 320 with a Synaptics touchpad. I am running Linux Mint 19 with Mate desktop. Every day or two, the touchpad stops working. Everything else still works and I can use a USB mouse. I have not noted any commonality between these occurrences - It doesn't ...

F.Y.I.
At this moment, the wifi is connected and working, but the icon shows a cable plug rather than wireless signal strength bars. I have no hardwired cable connection.

Re: wifi nightmare in both LM 17 and 18
Since I posted the last time, I tried replacing the the wifi driver for the third time (r8168 in place of r8169) and this time it maybe works slightly better since the list of available networks sometimes shows, but still far from a solution. I also tried another script that purported to awaken the ...

I don't know what causes contribute to this, but your experience is fairly commonplace in my experience, particularly on shared connections.
