Re: Prevent accidental copying in caja?

It was already on the largest possible setting. Maybe I should mention that I don't actually use a mouse, but a trackball instead (a version with a large ball in the middle surrounded by four buttons). This means it can happen that I accidentally move the ball while clicking, so I'm looking for a wa...

Prevent accidental copying in caja?

While selecting multiple files using ctrl and mouse clicks in caja, it often happens by accident that a copy of those selected files is made. This happens because of the default behaviour. Drag and drop while holding ctrl makes a copy. Of course, I don't actually try to drag. All I'm doing is clicki...

Re: [Solved] Editing or Disabling the Volume Meter/ OSD/ Pop

Update I did a fresh install recently to Mint 17.2 Rafaela. Now this solution doesn't work anymore. $ sh -c "pactl set-sink-mute 0 false ; pactl set-sink-volume 0 +1%" Failure: No such entity Failed to get sink information: No such entity Changing the commands to.. sh -c "pactl set-s...

Re: Editing or Disabling the Volume Meter/ OSD/ Pop-Up

That's pretty harsh. But you're right, it's style changes with the theme. "Colors" also affects the OSD,.. that's probably where your transparency is coming from (Windows, Background)? As for the huge icon... maybe you somewhere (caja?) specified to use huge icons. Because under /usr/share...

Re: Editing or Disabling the Volume Meter/ OSD/ Pop-Up

Obviously that isn't the solution I'm looking for, because I want to use shortcuts. Or maybe there are other shortcuts to control sound that won't cause the volume meter to pop up? I'm using a remote for watching movies on my pc. (It's really only one of those ultra small keyboards.) Not using short...

Re: Replacing "\n1" with "\n"

Figured out how to do this on my own. #! /bin/sh for f in /path/to/file.txt do sed -i ':a;N;$!ba;s/\n[0-9]/\n/g' "$f" done Easier to read version (what I used to play around and test things): sed -e ':a' \ -e 'N' \ -e '$!ba' \ -e 's/\n[0-9]/\n/g' "$f # deletes digit if it's the first ...

Re: Editing or Disabling the Volume Meter/ OSD/ Pop-Up

I don't have Cinnamon, though. I have Linux Mint 13 with Mate. But maybe it's not a Mate thingie, because I remember having this Volume Meter back with Gnome 2.0. And even before that, I vaguely remember having this with KDE 3.x around 2006. Only it never bothered me, because until recently, I never...

[Solved] Replacing "\n1" with "\n"

Sometimes I want to accomplish something that seems like an easy thing to do, but when I try it out proves to be impossible. Like removing or editing a notification or playing Hi10p 1080p videos . This time I want to write a script that finds some string and replaces it with some other string. Among...

[Solved] Editing or Disabling the Volume Meter/ OSD/ Pop-Up

Solution: Assigned to Volume Up key: XF86AudioRaiseVolume sh -c "pactl set-sink-mute 0 false ; pactl set-sink-volume 0 +1%" and to Volume down key XF86AudioLowerVolume sh -c "pactl set-sink-mute 0 false ; pactl -- set-sink-volume 0 -1%" I used 3% though. It feels more responsive ...

Re: Lagging Firefox (15-17)

The problem with adblock+ not remembering my filters solved itself today. Not sure what exactly was causing the trouble, though. The lagging issue with newer versions of firefox remains unsolved.

Lagging Firefox (15-17)

I'm on Maya / Mate and since Firefox 15 I've experienced lag so heavy it was impossible to even try solve the problem within firefox, because it just wouldn't even react to anything. No problem, there's a fallback to Firefox 11 in the repositories, so everything was fine... up till yesterday. That's...

Re: 1080p Hi10P lagging (mplayer2, youtube,..)

Found out that the issue is also related to the sound driver. Using oss instead of pulse greatly improves everything, only problem with oss is... Re: alternative to dropbox for transferring large files

You could also try installing Opera and setting up an unite account. Apparently Opera killed unite, but it's still working for me. With unite you can easily upload/download large files. (It's so easy and comfortable to use, they just had to kill it.)

Re: Hibernation in Linux mint 13 ?

Running Linux Mint 13 / Mate.
There is no suspend to disk (hibernation) in the shutdown menu for me either.
I've got 8GB RAM and therefore I gave the Swap partition about 12GB. Turns out that was useless.

Re: Duck-Duck-Go must go!

As long as I have something that works for me, I'm not too eager to test out everything in existence. Ixquick works for me. Maybe I'd try using DDG if it was a recommendation from someone, but I stumbled upon the search engine while testing Midori and didn't really feel that it was something to be t...
