Re: A Dolphin Mystery...

Go to the files folder. sudo rm f is the command to remove it. Where f is the file you wish to remove. Thank you for the suggestion. I tried this, also. I was informed that it is a Directory and could not be deleted. I opened it and it is just a large number of six character phrases followed by a l...

Re: A Dolphin Mystery...

can you right click on the file and go to properties and let us know who it's owner is? Should be user or root. Also what are the permissions who can access the file. It sounds suspicious. Thank you for the response. Clicking on the folder in Dolphin, either right or left, freezes Dolphin. It produ...

A Dolphin Mystery...

I am still using Linux Mint 17 KDE, and am doing so very happily. For the most part. Recently, a folder has appeared in Dolphin which I cannot identify. It is labelled "rlylSy.N9u". Any attempts to open the folder (or delete it) result in Dolphin freezing up, and I get the box informing me that Dolp...

What is your preferred backup program?

I just acquired a new portable hard drive to replace an older one. In the past, I have used, or attempted to use, MintBackUp, Lucky Backup, Deja Dup, & Rsync. I have also read some good things about Areca, but I can't seem to find it in the repository. FWIW, my last few backups were done with Deja D...

Re: Does anyone know if there are plans to add Seamonkey...

Thanks for the prompt replies. I guess I'll have to do the 'sudo apt-get' thing. For me, personally, I always feel I am treading in murky water with unknown monsters just under the surface when I go this route, but, then, what's life without a little adventure! And, from my searches, I gather that t...

Re: Dolphin question...

Yep! Since I posted my question, a friend emailed me to advise me to re-format the stick. I've done so and am copying the file as I type. Hopefully, it will work. Thank you so much for your speedy reply, though.

Dolphin question... [Soved]

I am using Linux Mint 17 KDE. I use Dolphin for organizing my files. I am able to download basketball games in an mp4 file format. In most instances, I will transfer them to a flash drive which I can then play through by BluRay player connected to my television. This has worked well for me for some ...

Quarantine and Delete when dealing with suspicious bits that the program discovers? I suspect that the offending items are tracking cookies, but I am uncertain. Regardless, is there any advantage to moving them to a quarantine file as opposed to simply deleting them? Thanks.

Before I begin the installation...(Mostly solved)

I have not done an installation on a laptop with UEFI. I have tried to research this, and I think I am getting a handle on the process. However, much of the dialogue I am seeing in this forum has to do with 'duel' boots. Back in the 'good ole days', I simply let Linux Mint set the partitions as it d...

(Solved) I may be purchasing a new computer...

and I've done a search, but the wording is awkward and I am not finding the results I want. I may find myself in the market for a new laptop and I am trying to find a resource that lists either the PC's that will, or the PC's that won't, allow Linux to boot from the hard drive. From casual research,...

Re: Unauthenticated software updates???

Interesting development. First, I stand corrected about the significance of the various levels noted in the Update Manager. Second, I found a post from last month in which someone else noted the same problem (they, too, were receiving warnings about unauthenticated updates for level 3, while I was r...

Re: Unauthenticated software updates???

First things first. On my system, Mint Update Manager ranks updates 1 through 5, with '1' being the most critical. Secondly, there is a box to the left of each update. If it has a red exclamation point in it, said update has not been 'authenticated'. If you attempt to install that update, you will g...

Unauthenticated software updates???

When a friend's laptop gave up the ghost, I replaced Windows XP with Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon. It works fine for him. However, he is a Luddite and has never embraced the concept of 'updates'. Whenever I visit, I check and install them. This weekend I found over 40 unauthenticated updates (along with a...

Re: I think I have a problem with the latest Firefox update.

Again, I am uncertain what this might mean, but... I switched my search engine from Google to DuckDuckGo, and the problem seems to have resolved itself. Needless to say, I'm a bit confused, but the pages are loading now when I click a link.

I think I have a problem with the latest Firefox update...

I am using Firefox (39.0?) with the following add-ons: NoScript, Adblock Plus, and Ghostery. It also appears that Mint Search Enhancer 1.0 has been enabled, but I do not remember doing so. My problem concerns opening links, especially from Google searches. Sometimes, a blank page will appear with a ...

Does anyone know how the project to develop Miracle Cast...

is progressing? I read that Miracle Cast (an open source alternative to Miracast) was in the experimental phase, but that article was released last February. I was hoping someone might provide an update. Thanks in advance.

Re: I just installed gkrellm...

Thanks to all that replied! According to KSysGuard, I'm just running 192 processes (for "all"), and that other user is the pesky root. Who knew? I have no idea why gkrellm is more than doubling my reported usage, but I feel a bit better now. At any rate, thanks again everyone!
