Re: Annoying problem on bootup

Judging by your post here , I would suggest a complete purge of everything on the drive followed by a fresh install might be the best option. Thanks for the reply, but i have done that already and although mint kde works fine on the most part it just has that 1 annoying problem that i'm eager to fix!

Annoying problem on bootup

As i've mentioned somewhere before. Sometimes when i switch the computer back on mint stops booting. Now today for example it took 8 resets for it to boot. Sequence of what happens is bios screen------>grub2-------->black screen with hdd light going------->blackscreen no hdd light. I can leave the p...

Re: Partitions in a mess

I had thought of doing that but I've been working with mint for a while now and it's got all the programs and settings just how I like them. So if possible I would like to just redistribute the empty space. I could just remove the new partition with xbmc on it and reinstall using the custom option,...

Re: Mint-13 DISAPPOINTED!

Getreal, dont give up! Sure it can be hard going - linux is a learning curve. I was in your shoes not so long ago and felt the same way and was nearly about to give up. I never and so so glad i didnt. :D I think linux ,once you get used to it, is by far the better O.S. If you think you'll switch ove...

Re: Partitions in a mess

If it were me, and i'm no expert, i'd delete all the partitions and start with fresh clean space. When installing the distro's you want and when it asks you how you want to partition the drive choose other. Chosing 'other 'allows you to configure the free space how you want. I might be wrong in sugg...

Re: Using Grub2

Thanks. I broke my boot up completely and got 'grub rescue'. Not knowing any commands for the rescue i remembered i had downloaded the 'boot repair iso'. I burned it to disk and let it run its magic. Now I can boot up again and it uses grub for the time being. *shakes fist at windows and flexnet* wi...

I get this error when i do the 2nd command, grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for /boot (is /dev mounted?). /usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Sector 32 is already in use by FlexNet; avoiding it. This software may cause boot or other problems in future. Please ask its authors no...

Re: ditching mint

I just came back from Windows 7 & 8. It's nice to be back on Mint with the Cinnamon desktop. Very stable and usable. No worry about critical updates, patches, security breeches and blue screens. There's no place like home. I'm not with the original poster but i feel linux in general does seem to ha...

Re: LM13 + ATI Radeon Drivers

That worked... now I'm back to where I was! :) Thanks the moral of the story is. DONT install the ati drivers. There was a work around for the out of range. edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, and inside the stanza "Screen", add the following lines: Subsection "Display" Virtual 2646 1024 EndSubsecti...

Re: Backing up the root

Hello, ajg007. Have just added the Remastersys repository to Ubuntu 12.04 x64 (Unity desktop) and Linux Mint 13 x64 (Cinnamon desktop) and marked Remastersys 3.0.3.1 for installation. Synaptic did not find any need to install any KDE related packages. Therefore I start wondering which desktop you a...

it put mint like it was when it was first installed without any changes to the desktop enviroment.

It was a change i made to the desktop enviroment which caused the problem i had with booting.
