Re: New kaby lake build. motherboard advice

Hello Mark_1, I switched to a Kaby Lake in February: MSI Z270 GAMING PRO CARBON with i7-7700K and DDR4 8GB 3200-16 Ripjaws I changed the motherboard and CPU on an existing Mint installation. Works like a charm. The only thing I did extra was the installation of kernel 4.9 from backports before chang...

Re: LMDE install new kernel 4.8.10

I you do not want to compile a kernel by yourself and version 4.7 is good enough, you could use version 4.7.8-1~bpo8+1 from debian backports. This is best choice for my laptop with skylake architecture.

Yes, I get that. But why is only the laptop complaining and not the other PCs? They are using the same repos. :?:

repository uses weak digest algorithm (SHA1)

Hi, I posted this already on the debian user list because I thought it is best covered there. But the only reply I got was actually pinting me to the mint forums ;-) I have a weird signature issue with an Mint repository. The issue is: I have 4 PC and 1 laptop at home. All running LMDE2. When I do "...

Re: netstat looks to show I have 4 different IP addresses?

Hello markoff, this is not 4 IP addresses for your computer but 4 UDP connections from your computer to these ip addresses. udp 0 0 192.168.1.25:netbios-ns *:* udp 0 0 192.168.1.44:netbios-ns *:* udp 0 0 192.168.1.2:netbios-dgm *:* udp 0 0 192.168.1.4:netbios-dgm *:* The ip address of your computer ...

Re: How do I remove a broken package?

What does
apt-cache policy libgirepository*
say?

You could try to download the package version that did work (1.42?) and install it with "dpkg -i ...". That should remove the bad package.

Atril starting mate-screensaver

Hi, I am using LMDE2 with cinnamon desktop but have mate installed in parallell. I want to use atril as pdf viewer with cinnamon. But atril always starts the mate-settings-daemon and the mate-screensaver even in the cinnamon environment. So, whenever the screen gets locked I need to authenticate twi...

Re: Disable hibernate/suspend

Hello farnute,

that works at least for cinnamon. Thanks.

But mdm still shows "Bereitschaft" = suspend in the menu.

atril startet mate-screensaver

Re: mdm poweroff not working

I just saw that this is a know bug in mdm:

Hope it is fixed soon. The bug report was created in January.

But it does not change the MDM menu. Any idea for that?

Re: Disable hibernate/suspend

I am sorry to say that, but I think you are both wrong. :( @Crewp: LMDE does not ship with systemd. In that regard it is deviating from debian stable. Therefor your proposal with masking services via systemctl does not work. @Pjotr, the tutorial you linked to is for Ubuntu based Mint. in LMDE2 there...

Disable hibernate/suspend

Hi,

I am looking for a way to remove the Hibernate/Suspend options from the MDM menu and from the cinnamon shutdown dialog.
I only want to see the options poweroff and reboot.

How do I do that?

Re: mdm poweroff not working

When I see this happening (it does not happen always) I see entries like this in users.log:
mdmwebkit: dconf-CRITICAL: unable to create directory '/run/user/0/dconf': Keine Berechtigung. dconf will not work properly.
And I see a defunct mdmwebkit process.

mdm poweroff not working

Hi, I have two PCs freshly installed with LMDE2 cinnamon. Both PCs have issues with mdm shutting down the PC. When selecting "Herunterfahren" (shutdown or poweroff, dont know how that is called in the english GUI), mdm terminates and the screen goes black. The mouse pointer is still visible. But not...

configure gnome help page

Hi All, I had MINT LMDE installed on my PC but moved back to Debian Testing. I did not do a clean reinstall but simply changed the repositories and the pinning. If I start the Help function now in a gnome terminal or nautilus - either via F1 or "Help" menu - the system still opens the MINT URL: http...

KDE suspend / hibernate just executes the screensaver

Hi,

I am running Mint LMDE with incoming repos.

On the commandline I can suspend and hibernate the computer with
pm-suspend and pm-hibernate. But when I click on the Suspend or
Hibernate button in the KDE exit dialog only the screensaver gets started.

What is missing?

Ciao
Matthias
