Re: No WLAN, driver for Broadcom BCM4311 802.11 b/g

Ubuntu variants have odd reactions to Broadcom wifi. I have the BCM4318 that fell through the cracks and got sidelined. Your BCM 4311 is a previous revision and there is plenty of info at http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43 If there is no wifi after installation invoke synaptic package mng...

Re: Need help ... dual boot Win 7/Linux Mint 13 MATE!

That tutorial you followed isn't one hundred per cent on the ball. To keep windows and put linux after it you shrink the windows partition from administrative tools > computer mngt > disk mngt because only windows can determine a minimum safe size. On the cd installation options screen choose the 's...

Re: Mint just hangs on install

What monitor do you have? You have no idea how many times this happened with my previous distro and it was caused by an inadequate driver set on the installation disk. The distro was developed on a high end amd machine with colossal monitors and no allowance was made for older or legacy monitors /gr...

Re: Trouble installing Mint? Me too. Here are some things to

Just a passing thought here disappointed Debian docs have a way of making things seem more complicated than they need to be. You don't need to create four partitions. One and one swap will do. You set it as / and when you are asked where you want the bootloader put you select the /dev/sda? number of...

Re: ttf-mscorefonts-installer won't install

It's installed OK for me on several installs I'll admit it was freaky slow on some fonts. But it's easy enough (if you have a windows install) to copy the fonts over to /usr/share/fonts Or you can check here: http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/ Thank you very much for the link. It worked. The sourcef...

[ Solved ] ttf-mscorefonts-installer won't install

Hi I'm new to Mint but not new to Ubuntu flavours and I have just installed 13 Mate because I cannot get along with anything resembling Gnome 3 gui and I got an odd problem here I never saw before. The ttf-mscorefonts-installer package will not install. Tried it through synaptic first and it stopped...
