Re: [SOLVED] The weather forecast applet refused to work
New discovery The patch failure in Mint 20.3 or before is found to be caused by old libsoup incapable of handling the server redirect to remove "www." https://github.com/mate-desktop/libmateweather/pull/131 So the solution is don't write "www." in the hardcoded URL in the first ...

Re: 20.3 to 21 upgrade fails due to "Foreign Packages"
First time ever I have lots of issues during a Mint update.
I made the decision to stick with my current 20.3 Una.
It will be supported until 2025 so 2 years more to be usable.
At that time my PC will be aprox 15 years so I will then install the newest Mint onto a new (2nd hand) PC.

Re: cd/dvd tray opens and closes during boot after kernel update
I'm running Mint 19.3 on a home-built system. When I rebooted after installing 5.4.0-84, one of my two optical drives opened and closed before the GUI loaded. After reading several of these forum threads, I reverted to 5.4.0-81, which solved the problem, and blacklisted -84. I just updated to 5.4.0...

no communication TPM chip
Running 20.1 Mate and suddenly I see an error mesg during boot. Got some new kernels coming in after the upgrade to 20.1 "Communication not possible with TPM Chip". Never had this error before with all previous Mint Mate versions and now it suddenly popped up. Running an older HP Desktop (...

Re: [SOLVED] What did I do - my icons aren't as nice
Interesting but how to change these? E.g for the update manager icon these are the icons you'd potentially need to override. steve@steve-Inspiron-5580:~$ apt content mintupdate | grep symbolic /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/status/mintupdate-checking-symbolic.svg /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalabl...

Re: Change Panel icons, Solved.
Go to Synaptic Package Manager and download mate-themes. Once installed select the newly installed TraditionalOk theme, click menu, Preference and then Appearance to do this. Click Customise and select the icon theme of choice and the icons on the panel should change to the ones chosen. If the icon...

Re: A lightweight browser
Be aware it will install 238MB due to a load of extra files to run Falkon (since it's not KDE).Vladimir00 wrote: ⤴Sun Jul 19, 2020 12:33 pm Maybe it will suit you https://www.falkon.org/
You can install it using the command sudo apt-get install falkon
It can easily be installed from you package manager.

Re: RadioTray gone after upgrade LM 20
Where you will have the same problem because Debian dropped Python2. I understand but this upgrade caused some problems which I didn't forsee, Chromium with a workaround, this python 2 problem (which also will be with Debian) and the ugly noticiation Icons which are apparently hard to change. Shoul...

Re: RadioTray gone after upgrade LM 20
Another option is to use LM 19.3, which is still supported until April 2023, and continues to use the Ubuntu 18.04 repos. Was thinking about it too, I still can go back with Timeshift but I'm a little afraid to wreck it. Then in 2023 I think I will move to Debian, do love Mint but these issues are ...

Re: RadioTray gone after upgrade LM 20
The RadioTray-NG page says they removed the Python 2 dependency. From that, I infer that the original RadioTray was dependent on Python 2, which reached EOL a few months ago, so I suspect Ubuntu 20.04 LTS wouldn't ship with it. So no hope to get it running again or install python 2 again which prob...

EDIT: It seems there's a fork that's under development, RadioTray-NG ... https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=323419 https://github.com/ebruck/radiotray-ng/releases Yes but like I said not accepting the way RadioTray needed it's bookmarks which results in a player without my favori...

[SOLVED] RadioTray gone after upgrade LM 20
As a big user of RadioTray in previous LM versions I am very sad to see it is gone after my upgrade to LM20 Mate. My file with my bookmarks is still there but the application itself is gone. I found the .DEB package but it is not installing anymore (see attachement). Is there a way to get it install...

Re: Chromium - none on mint 20
This was the most logical option for me. http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/202 ... ntu-20-04/ Just notice you use the Pin-Priority command so you avoid installing the snap package. (PPA is pre-installed to the Ubuntu MATE based respin “Li-f-e” (Linux for Education 20.04).) Works like a breeze. :mr...
