Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Xfce is out!

Good enough for me to switch back to Mint from Xubuntu. Installed it on ASUS EB-1033 in multi boot with Win 8 and Xubuntu 12.04.4, and it runs fine. Installer had a grub glitch though, as the installed bootloader did not have any entry for Win 8 at all. Boot menu only listed Mint and Xubuntu! Got fi...

Doh! I want my MINT 13 upgraded to LTS 12.4.3, not Ubuntu. Can you even read? Did you even try?

@Nilla Wafer thanks foir the effort. ;)
I want to stay on the LTS Mint 13.

Re: Is Dual Booting Worth The Hassle?

Your choice is determined by your needs. It's that simple, or at least it should be, all the moralistic, pseudo ethics and philosophy and what-not-else is irrelevant. I switched to dual boot Mint 13 a year and a half ago, because I hated what I saw as far as the then upcoming Win 8 was concerned, an...

Is upgrading Mint 13 to Ubuntu 12.04.3 safe?

From ubuntu wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrecisePangolin/ReleaseNotes/UbuntuDesktop sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-raring xserver-xorg-lts-raring is what you need to upgrade the LTS 12.04 release to 12.04.3. (LTS Hardware Enablement Stack) Is there any risk when excuting this on Linux Mint 1...

Re: Minor Boot annoyances after updating kernel to 3.8.4

xorg-edgers download was from a visitor there in comments, no need to blame upubuntu people, they are doing a great job. The link actually came from the official ubuntu forums. it is just one file download, nvidia driver settings file, using wget in terminal and not adding or using their PPA, which ...

Minor Boot annoyances after updating kernel to 3.8.4

Not sure whether this belongs here or in install/boot forum, so mods feel free to move it if necessary I upgraded the kernel of my Linux Mint 13 Xfce 64 bit yesterday from 3.4.4 to the latest 3.8.4. I followed the hints up at upubuntu, and managed to upgrade, but only after removing virtualbox guest...

Re: Flash has gone to hell

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8004dG3KFw works fine for me, in Opera, Linux Mint 13 XFCE. Right clicked on the player to make sure it is the flash player and not the HTML5 player, but as was to be expected from VEVO videos it's Flash. Re: flash plugin keeps on crashing

Flash plugin crashes are all over the place with this latest Linux Flash version. That version did so on Windows too. Later versions are better but still buggy. Although mine still works fine most of the time, the issue as reported: that the video stops after a couple of seconds/minutes has happened...

Re: Linux and OS in general

Maybe we should have this discussion in 2 years. I got the feeling Redmond is gonna be doing Linux a major favour with Win 8 and all its restrictions and the novelty "touchy" value. It's what made me switch, and it will be forever. I've had it with Microsoft. What I've seen from Win 8 so f...

Re: Constant system wide hangs/freezes in Mint 13 Cinnamon 6

I experienced something very similar. We both run i5 3 serises. My system is a desktop. I use the onchip HD 4000 graphics. I experienced hard system freezes on another distro using Unity and Compiz. I switched to Mint 13 KDE. It runs perfectly. I don't know enough about Linux to know why the variou...

Re: lose of windows upper part

Try this, open terminal
type xfwm4
that should start the windows manager... see what happens, if the window looks OK again go to menu [Settings -> Session and Startup] and save the current xfwm4 session.
Reboot.
That fixed it for me.
Good luck.

Re: Linux Mint 13 XFCE constantly freezes [SOLVED]

Solved - well I hope so at least, been fine for three days now - so.. knock on wood - by upgrading the kernel using How To Install Linux Kernel 3.4.4 In Ubuntu 12.04/Linux Mint 13 http://www.upubuntu.com/2012/06/how-to-install-linux-kernel-344-in.html If you're game you might even use the very lates...

After I updated the kernel I had the same problem.. no windows borders or anything.. here's how I solved it I actually just used xfmw4 in the terminal.. leave terminal open then when the windows look OK again go to sessions-startup menu and save the current session for xfmw4. On next reboot all shou...

OK, so what is the best way to update the kernel with a fresh Mint install. Ubuntu is ahead of Mint. check this out How To Install Linux Kernel 3.5.4 On Ubuntu 12.10/12.04/11.10/Linux Mint 13 http://www.upubuntu.com/2012/09/how-to-install-linux-kernel-354-on.html works like a charm I upgraded to 3....

Re: Mint 13 Xfce problem minimising windows

The problem was very likely with sessions, it remembered the last used desktop engine. If you change to XFCE you have to start it as caribriz said with xfwm4 command, then go to sessions-startup.. and save your session. I ran into this after upgrading the kernel, I had no windows manager at all anymo...

Sorry it's window decorations. I sort of solved it but saving the session. I'm going to mark as solved, but I still would like to know why it was happening in the first place. Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2 Sessions might have been the problem. I had a similar issue after upgrading the kerne...

Well, first of all I'm too inexperienced in all of this to argue with you ;) but from browsing these forums it seems there's quite a lot of people reporting freezing and they're all using all kinds of different desktops and even hardware setups... so maybe it isn't so odd my old AMD 64 bit is also i...

Re: Random System Freezes on Relatively New Install

@watertavi: is there any (special) reason why you didn't upgrade to 3.5.4 instead of 3.4 .4 ?
I'm new to all this stuff so I hope you don't mind me asking.
If anybody else can answer the question, please go for it ;)
