Re: menu shortcut
A long time ago, using Mate 1.16 on Debian 9, I wanted to open my Mate Menu with Super-L button instead of Alt+F1. I applied the following procedure. First click Applications. Then chose System Tools. Then chose, one after another: dconfeditor-mate-marco-global keybindings-panel main menu-Custom Val...

Re: reset/reinstall the start menu?
Press Alt and F2 and then type
After that type in
If you reboot and cannot get even terminal to work, then with Alt+F1 you should be able to open Menu and then select what you need. Good luck!
Code: Select all
mate-terminal
Code: Select all
mate-panel --reset

Re: Home folder change background colour and icon titles
Fair enough. I admit I thought that Mint developers were also responsible and meritorious for developing Mate as a DE, not just Cinnamon. Let me add to my previous post that the solution I offered is valid also if people prefer different colour combinations (both for the Caja background and for the ...

Home folder change background colour and icon titles
I have been using Linux Mint for ten years already, since LM 11 Katya. Mate has always been my favourite DE, especially because it was so easy to automatically change the background colour in Home folder (Caja) with Edit-Backgrounds and Emblems-Colors. Unfortunately, for the last several editions bo...

Thank you all, folks, you are amazing! I feel a bit ashamed
@Fred Barclay
Yes, I am already there, on Debian forums. I am rudar (i. e. miner, who works hard and digs deeply enough... seeking for precious knowledge). Kudos to Mint, I know where to return, if Debian ever breaks apart.

Re: from LMDE to Debian, a long journey home
Just for the record: it's time to say goodbye to Mint... I enjoyed more than three years with this excellent distro, first with LM 11 (Katya was the first distro I installed on my then brand new desktop), and subsequently with LMDE. But I always kept an eye on pure Debian, watching its progress, com...

Re: Any solution to the wireless BCM43142 issue?
Just for the record: I managed to find a solution. It took me several days, I feel exhausted, but it's working again. There were so many lines I tried before I got the right solution in the Terminal, and, most regrettably, I cannot explain precisely how I reached the end. Perhaps in another post.

Re: Any solution to the wireless BCM43142 issue?
Hi there! Sorry to intrude, even after such a long period of time, but I believe we have the same trouble, although not under the same circumstances. My problem with this wireless card (BCM43142) came on Lenovo G500, running Debian Testing Xfce. Yes, I know it's Debian, and not Mint (not even LMDE),...

Re: Broadcom bcm4313
Take a look at here:
https://wiki.debian.org/wl
https://wiki.debian.org/bcm43xx
It's for Debian, but it might be useful too
Also, you might wish to read our posts here: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=109498
Yes, it's Debian again, but you never know, it might work!

Re: D link DWA-123 in LMDE
Well, I made a fresh and clean re-install, and this apparently solved this problem for me. Though it doesn't make me too proud to say. I don't know about the others, but I can use wireless internet now through the stick described in this topic. So, although LMDE is a rolling (or semi-rolling) distro...

Re: D link DWA-123 in LMDE
There came an opinion that something may be wrong with Firmware, with a tip of trying to update it with: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install --reinstall firmware-ralink Now, I compared firmware between two PCs (both desktops, both LMDE as the only OS, both MATE 1.6 version and both being succes...

Re: D link DWA-123 in LMDE
Well, it makes me regret to say that my post, apparently, did not attract much attention here. Unfortunately, the problem persists. First I did the obvious, I checked if I plugged it correctly. That's fine and good. Then someone gave me a tip to try to list more details with dmesg and here is what I...

Re: D link DWA-123 in LMDE
It's a kind of strange. I have checked this device on two separate PCs, both running LMDE (UP-7). It works fine with this one: System: Host lmde Kernel 3.10-2-amd64 x86_64 (64 bit) Distro LinuxMint 1 debian CPU: Dual core Pentium E5400 (-MCP-) cache 2048 KB flags (lm nx sse sse2 sse3 ssse3 vmx) Cloc...

Re: D link DWA-123 in LMDE
I don't know if you got a solution, but I have the same problem: my wireless N 150 easy USB adapter DWA-123 also doesn't work with LMDE. This is a new kernel, 3.10-2, but problem persists. I checked it with Debian 7.1 Stable (live on DVD) and it worked perfectly, although Debian has an old kernel, 3...

Re: no DVD/CD player after UP-7 [SOLVED]
could it be? http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=716911 It's possible, at least these symptoms look the same. But this bug comes with XFCE, while I use Mate. So, it may have something to do with Caja, after all. Nevertheless, it seems I found a solution, so I'm satisfied with the way i...

Re: no DVD/CD player after UP-7
Sounds very similar to the issues I had with the DVD drive, along withe the same error message. You said you can read and all that, but will it play a movie. That is the other issue I had once I was able to read it. I could see the files in Caja, but it would not play the movie. Yes, it plays movie...
