Re: Change from Windows to Linux drive letters
I'm confused. Why are you typing? In another thread I have been writing about partitions in the middle of a paragraph. Yes, lsblk -fl is useful, and I'm learning terminal commands. john@study-pc:~$ lsblk -fl NAME FSTYPE FSVER LABEL UUID FSAVAIL FSUSE% MOUNTPOINTS sda sda1 sda2 ntfs WindowsData CA54...

How.to install to boot in BIOS / UEFI mode on same disk
I followed the instructions to prepare an external disk to boot in BIOS (legacy mode) and EFI from this post https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=1590473#p1590473 However, this does not work with the LM21 nor the LM21.3 installer. I boots fine on the UEFI system but not on the legacy boot sy...

Re: PDF viewer always fullscreen after start
Thank you all for your replies and the alternatives. I'll check those out.
In the end I'll have to use a different pdf viewer than the stock one to avoid this "always fullscreen after start" feature or
take a look at the source code.
Oh well.
Kind regards
Norbert

Re: Restore old Cinnamon sounds
Hi Me too ! Sounds are located in the directory /usr/share/mint-artwork/sounds. First, you need a copy of the old sounds. This very important. Without this you can't fall back to the old sounds. I don't know where you get these. I had two systems at that time and saved the old sounds of the second s...

Nemo (not Nautilus): Path of current directory always shown as text
Hi I am running Linux Mint 21.2 / Cinnamon edition. I have two systems (one with one monitor with 1920x1080 resolution , the other with two monitors of 1366 x 768 / 1680x1050 resolution each). On the first one the path name of the current directory is shown in, let's say, graphic buttons, while on t...

PDF viewer always fullscreen after start
Hi I am using Linux Mint 21.2 / Cinnamon edition. Not sure, whether this is related to the window manager or the application, though. On both of my systems (one with one monitor with 1920x1080 resolution , the other with two monitors of 1366 x 768 / 1680/1050 resolution each) the standard pdf viewer...

Re: Linux Mint 21.1 System sounds can be reset to Linux Mint 21.0 version ?
Hi all Thanks a lot for these posts. I, too, prefer the old sounds ! I have Virtualbox installed and it was easy to get the old sounds back. Just configure virtualbox to boot from the ISO image (on my SSD) from Mint 21 Cinnamon boot it insert an USB stick (allow virtualbox to access it by selecting ...

Re: thunderbird updates missing - Ubuntu uses snap for it ?
Found it ! There is an automatic update check included. If you open Help/About in the current version, you'll see it. Because there is no newer version I couldn't verify and check it, yet. So, consider the risks: Waiting for a probable fix in the unforeseeable future vs., the probably increasing sec...

Interesting reply (hahaha). That's exactly what I wrote:
They still have 78.8.1 as latest version !
Where do you get the up-to-date version 78.9.x ?
Please explain, why it is not necessary to download it directly, now ?

thunderbird updates missing - Ubuntu uses snap for it ?
Hi There is no up to date version of thunderbird found - neither in Ubuntu nor, of curse, in Linux Mint :( It would be 78.9.x. The latest version provided is 78.7.1 with some security flaws. 24.03.2021 message from the german BSI institute (translated by me) Valid for applications: Mozilla Firefox <...

Re: timeshift
Hi to all who answered Now I have some interesting stuff to use for experiments. Because I use fsarchiver as a backup of the /home (Filesystem or directory tree) I guess that timeshift won't use that much space. I like the folder renaming scheme and the hint for three partitions. I prefer the latter...

timeshift
Hi It is my first time with timeshift on Mint (19, cinnamon). It might be a good tool, but I see several annoyances with this: I have three notebooks with Linux Mint installed. Now I need 3 USB media for doing timeshift snapshots ??? There is no way to select a different directory than /timeshift ?!...

Re: Citrix Receiver Client ICAClient install for Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon
Hi everyone I didn't experience the problem mentioned here, but I recently installed Linux Mint 18 (Cinnamon) and the latest citrix receiver 13.5 with Firefox 52.0.1. I can connect to my work environment fine but couldn't start any application. All I got was "SSL Error 4" (and the usual: c...

Re: Multiple screens
Hi I am using Mint 16 / Cinnamon with an Intel HD 4000 graphic chip and face no such problems, at all. In previous versions of Mint (13 / Cinnamon) and with an nVidia graphic chip I had to use a tool called "disper" to easily add a second monitor. But this time with Mint 16: I simply conne...

Re: set up wireless connection on Linux Mint 14
Hi one year ago I found a strange behaviour of Windows: Although the "hardware" switch was in the "off" position for wireless, Windows ignored it and it worked on Windows. Needless to say, it took a while to figure that out on Linux ! The problem with that is, of course, that one...

Re: Printer Driver/Printer Settings
Hi usually, CUPS is installed. Access to the printer manager is done via your Web browser. So point your browser to http://localhost:631/ If you want to change something, you need to switch to the Administration tab. I don't have a printer connected right now, so I can't show how i works. But i know...

[SOLVED] panel-plugin xfce4-cpufreq-plugin crashes
Hi I read somewhere else that if you have problems with the panel plugins you should enable the PPA repository for xubuntu-dev. After enabling this repository, reloading the package lists and installing the latest version which at the time of writing is 1.0.0-4+ppa1 this panel-plugin works. However,...

panel-plugin xfce4-cpufreq-plugin crashes
Hi I am using XFce on an old AMD Turion laptop and the battery is broken. And, of course, the CPU is slowed down by this fact to 800 Mhz instead of the possible 2 GHz :( So I thought, why not install the xfce4-cpufreq-plugin to be able to change it to 2 GHz. But unfortunately, the plugin immediately...

Best desktop ever (Cinnamon 1.6)
Hi after using Ubuntu since 08.04 up to 10.04 I was looking for a replacement at the time the 10.04 version runs out of support. I am happy to find Linux Mint - some friends are using it and I tried it. My "evaluation" of a new Linux desktop included Lubuntu, Zorin OS, Xubuntu, PC/OS, etc....
