Re: swap on automatically?

I'll note that LM 19.x installs with a swap file by default, but OP didn't share what OS they are actually running. Thank you both for the info. The Disk tool change solved it :) As for my OS-information, it is LMint 19.2 Cinnamon 64-bit. Why there was no swap with the install? No idea.. The LMint ...

[Solved] swap on automatically?

Attached is a screenshot - it shows that the swap partition doesn't have a lock-symbol next to it. So I right-click it and select swapon , which I presume is correct. Undoubtedly there should be a more efficient way to have the swap act as swap automatically upon booting, but how can I get it to do ...

Please post what exactly you did As I mentioned in the edited post below the line ----- , it was some time ago I had done any tweaking, and then remembered the System Settings where dual monitors can be set to main/secondary and left/right. and edit first post title and add solved as per my signatu...

[SOLVED] upgrade 18.3 to 19.2 ok except dual monitor

The title says it all.. I upgraded from 18.3 to 19(.2) and this time all went well, but the settings of the dual monitor setup went berserk. The main large monitor had Conky on it, which is still in place, but the panel somehow switched to the small monitor now. Also the few icons I allow in my deks...

Re: 18.3 upgrade to 19 failed

Just couple of checks: Is there enough room for upgrade? df / /home Is Timeshift running during an upgrade? (ps -ef|grep -v grep|grep timeshift >/dev/null && echo ”running” || echo ”not running”) The terminal refuses to come alive, so I'll have to use Timeshift again to revert completely to the ori...

Re: 18.3 upgrade to 19 failed

I hope you have the backup. I guess it offers a dry run as an option? Was it successful? And anyway it is advised to do a clean install for upgrade from 18 to 19. The dry run showed no expectancy of problems, so I went for it. I have a backup of my data, and for the first time tried out Timeshift. I...

dual boot - how to reach files?

I'm not really a Linux-newbee anymore, but am so - more or less - in the department of dual-booting because I don't know how things are shared in such a case. I installed LinuxMint Mate for a friend, next to her Windows OS. She insists on keeping all files in her Windows side, for now at least. So I...

Re: Dropbox still an issue in 18.3 startup

Once again - removed dropbox and also shutter (screenshot application) - re-installed dropbox and nemo-dropbox, added dropbox in startup applications - rebooted and all is good; dropbox icon appears in the panel So the hick-up may have been shutter being incompatible and interfering somehow? Anyway ...

Re: Dropbox still an issue in 18.3 startup

Sorry for the late reaction. I removed dropbox, nemo-dropbox and libnet-dropbox-api-perl (which insisted on uninstalling shutter) via synaptic and after that re-installed dropbox, nemo-dropbox plus shutter, which re-installed libnet-dropbox-api-perl. Issue is solved now - dropbox starts up with the...

What happens is exactly the problem.. it's gone every time.

Re: show grub when booting still possible?

To clarify: In /etc/default/grub make sure that GRUB_TIMEOUT=3 Then you have to place a # in front of the line that says GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 - so that it looks like this #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 In order for that change to take effect, you have to run sudo update-grub One additional step you can ta...

Re: show grub when booting still possible?

One of the problems with the thread you link is that there was a bit of back-and-forth over what exactly to do. Instead, let's start from scratch. Try this: 1. Open terminal. Backup grub config file: sudo cp /etc/default/grub /etc/default/grub-default . 2. Open the original config file: gksudo xed ...

Re: Dropbox still an issue in 18.3 startup

Putting

Code: Select all

/home/ludo/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd
in Start Up Applications as custom command didn't work.
On reboot it has disappeared from Start Up Applications.

[Solved] show grub when booting still possible?

Is it possible somehow to have GRUB show up at boot?
I followed this post viewtopic.php?t=55370 to arrange it, but it didn't change anything.
My guess is it doesn't work because Mint now has the extra guest-account option when booting, instead of the one user?

or, something else that I don't follow, I guess..?

[Solved] Dropbox still an issue in 18.3 startup

For several releases now Dropbox always needed workarounds for startup.
It looks like in 18.3 it still is an issue?
Simply adding Dropbox in the StartUp Applications still doesn't work - after every reboot it's gone again :|
