SOLVED: update manager error

So, I have two desktops, two netbooks, and an HTPC all running Mint (HTPC runs Julia, the others all run Isadora). Intermittently, I have been getting this error from Mint update the HTCP and desktop systems: "Could not refresh the list of packages" I will manually ask it to refresh, but I just get ...

Re: Update Manager - no response NOT SOLVED

And even crazier, sometimes update manager has started to show Level 5 updates like the linux kernel as Level 3 updates! Again, the behavior is erratic. I can't be the only one experiencing this...

Re: Update Manager - no response

So, this is still a legitimate problem. And the thread above simply shows how to return the sources.list files to it's original state. I have three Mint 9 installs (desktop, netbook, and htpc). All three have a schizophrenic mintUpdate and synaptic, Sometimes it fails to update and gives a 404 error...

Re: Not Till It's Ready??

It's still annoying that Mint is beholden to Ubuntu's release cycle. I almost wish Mint was able to fully detach (not unlike Zenwalk from Slackware, or PCLOS from Mandrake) and stick to its own release cycle. But, of course, part of Mint's elegance is it's binary compatibility with Ubuntu. And with ...

Re: KDE 4.3

I decided to hold off on upgrading to 4.3 based on the wide range of experiences folks have had. I *did* however download the Karmic alpha Kubuntu LiveCD and take the new KDE 4.3 for a test-drive. And I have to say I was FLOORED by the experience. So many bugs were fixed, and so many features were e...

Re: Synaptic not displaying all packages

did you add the key for the repo if it has one? does it repo show up in the synaptic source/repo filter? I wounder if a hold has been put on those packages (or repo) somehow. have you tried aptitude? does it show the 2.2 version. Boo Oddly enough, it shows up in Synaptic now. Weird. Not sure what I...

Re: Synaptic not displaying all packages

Thanks for the replies. I'm not a linux noob, so I know my way around APT and the command-line. The repositories are added properly as I can apt-get everything from them from the command-line. They just don't "show" in Synaptic. For example, I added the Virtualbox repository, but it won't show Virtu...

Synaptic not displaying all packages

This may not be related to KDE, but that's what I'm using. I will add repositories to APT, but their packages won't show up in Synaptic. I can apt-get them, but nothing in Synaptic. Anybody ever heard of this?

Re: CUPS print to pdf not working

Man, I hate unresolved threads...

The workaround in Firefox is to select the "Print to File" option. It will allow you to then select either post-script or pdf. Selecting PDF will let you choose the folder and filename to save under. Works perfect here.

Re: The MASTER KDE CE update thread!

Obviously RC1 is out now, so please report bugs in the appropriate thread so Boo doesn't have to chase them down.

Re: The MASTER KDE CE update thread!

FYI, guys, the language pack bug is a MAJOR bug, and it looks like the decision will be made to fix the bug rather than release as a BETA. Any public release that occurs is considered a Release Candidate (RC), thus the quality is considered to be higher than a BETA. Rest assured, the dev team is har...

FYI, for those who don't check the blog. It looks like a critical bug has been discovered and the KDE CE release has been postponed.

Re: The MASTER KDE CE update thread!

It has been buggy for Kubuntu, Ubuntu, Mint, and any other distro that actually picked it up in their last release. If you only use basic sound functions such as listening to music, watching movies, playing games, etc., then you will never use it to it's full potential anyway. I have actually not e...

Re: The MASTER KDE CE update thread!

PulseAudio brought awesome sound server functionality to Gnome, but it sounds like integrating it with KDE is tougher due to the hooks that aRTs has into everything. aRTs is the KDE sound server. It's not as functional as PulseAudio, but it's been around for years and everything seems to rely on it....

Re: How to make a Mint-Myth

Don't try to diagnose your audio problems through Myth. Myth is just a fancy front-end for various engines like Xine. In fact, using Xine is a great way to diagnose problems with Myth. Make sure DVD's and other video give you audio through whatever output you have selected. If you are having issues ...

Re: How to make a Mint-Myth

REALLY tough to troubleshoot this from remote. Your DVD player is likely using digital optical passthrough. Any other audio is running through ALSA or Pulse or whatever. Get your sound straight in Mint first BEFORE you try Myth. Wish I could be of more help. Check out the Myth forums. Lots of good a...

Re: The MASTER KDE CE update thread!

Internal BETA 041 is being tested. It's a rigorous process, folks. The bar is set high, but in the end, we get an awesome distro!

Re: How to make a Mint-Myth

It's ironic you posted this because I am in the finishing stages of creating my own Mint-Myth system. I'm having some problems getting everything fine tuned but it seems that this will be the perfect Media Center. It's not an easy fit. Sound is always an issue. I recommend using Myth's internal pla...
