Xena wrote:Infamous, can you explain what smart fan control is?

I have an application written specifically for my hardware that moniters my temperatures and controls the fan speed. Without this piece of software my fan will either be on full blast of off.

Re: Is it my imagination or is firefox declining

Firefox declining? How can a stable software start declining? Sure it must be your own fault for trying to customize it too much. Backup your bookmarks and restore Firefox's default configuration by deleting the folder named .mozilla in your /home directory. You'll be surprised to see how it *magic...

Who can make changes to the software portal

Who here can make changes to the software portal? I would like to see the Opera web browser properly listed as freeware instead of open source. If I can't get the Source Code for Opera, then its not Open Source software. We can't get the code, we can't modify it, and we can't redistribute it. We sho...

usb-creator

Has anyone tried using usb-creator to create a bootable mint usb drive? I'm going to give it a shot when Mint 7 comes out. I successfully created a bootable Ubuntu 9.04 USB today. The first time I tried to create it from the cd it failed. The second time I tried creating it from the .iso and it work...

Re: Is it my imagination or is firefox declining

I gave epiphany a try and all I can say is wow. Its so fast. It doesn't even need a google search bar because the address bar doubles as one and also searches your book marks and other sites you have been to. Best browser ever. Flash vidoes are playing perfect for me. I tried some sites that give my...

Re: Linux Mint 6 KDE released!

Suggestions for next kde community edition, install samba be default. Add open as root to right click. Fix radio buttons and scroll bar on firefox. Make flashplayer work with konq. Tray icons don't disapear when they should allowing them to stack and make a mess. Emerald isn't working. I'm new to kd...

Re: My eeepc experience

I got power usage down to mid 7's by adding adam's repo, installing his kernel, and installing eee-control. Dell Mini-9, Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.2-lpia, bluetooth off, wifi on, playing a movie, backlight 50%, volume 75%, typing this post. Powertop says 8.1W, range over the last 30min has been 7.5-9.2W. t...

Re: Laptop battery power

Unfortunately, ACPI code on Linux/BSD does not seem to be as mature as on Windows. I have a lot of fan problems. though I'm mostly on AC so I don't notice battery life. Might want to see how often and how heavy the fan runs, in addition to the above. yeah thats a good point, i have some smart fan c...

Re: Is it my imagination or is firefox declining

Well the only add-on I have is add-block, which by the way doesn't do much anymore. The plug-ins are the same that come with mint, and the first thing I did when I installed mint on this laptop was fix the flash bug. So i dunno. I did come to realize that it runs much better if skype is not running....

can't get shmconfig to work

I've been trying to config my touchpad to disable while I type but have been unsuccessful. I'm using Mint 6 main. Heres the policy I have created in /etc/hal/fdi/policy/schmconfig.fdi <deviceinfo version="0.2"> <device> <match key="input.x11_driver" string="synaptics"> ...

Re: Laptop battery power

This is something I have investigated extensively myself. XP does power management very well. The same can not be said for the default setup on say Ubuntu 8.10. Much tweaking is required to get battery life to approach that which you would see running XP. Some of the things that kill battery life ar...

Is it my imagination or is firefox declining

It seems like firefox becomes less stable with every new release. For years firefox never crashed for me. Every few months it would freeze up for a few seconds and then start working again. Now it is freezing up on almost a daily basis. Sometimes I have to kill the process because it won't come back...

You can make it a netbook remix yourself. Just install netbook-launcher and add it to session to have it start automatically.
sudo apt-get install netbook-launcher

Re: Skype has a feed from the camera but no image

There is a known bug in skype that you can read about if you visit the skype forums. Basically, skype attempts to control the brightness of you web cam for you and fails misserrably. When the light level drops too low the image becomes black. I had the same situation as you. When I was in bright sun...
