Re: xz-compressed data is corrupt

sudo badblocks -w -s -o usbstick.log -v /dev/sdc Bad blocks gave me practically 100% of blocks corrupted using the first pattern, and zero using the others... how's that even possible? I mean, it als gives the progress 0/0/0. As it tested with 0xaa pattern the last digit continued increasing almost...

Re: xz-compressed data is corrupt

I write a new table every time I am to flash a distro on it, as dd screws the table up.

Right now I'm badblocking, but it looks like it's gonna take a while. Then, I'll f3, which I did right after buying it to check if it really was 16GB.

Re: xz-compressed data is corrupt

Update: unfortunately, something must be wrong with the pen drive I used. I dd'ed the iso to an old 2GB drive I have and it booted correctly. Bummer, because I bought this 16GB USB drive little time ago for the exact purpose of creating a persistent live x64 Cinnamon Betsy system. I'm sure the drive...

xz-compressed data is corrupt

Hi everyone! I downloaded the latest iso via torrent, and I write it on my usb drive with this command sudo dd if=lmde-2-201503-cinnamon-64bit.iso of=/dev/sdc bs=4M && sync But, booting from it, I get this error: XZ-compressed data is corrupt – System halted Can anyone help me on this? Which...

Re: Issues with persistent live boot

Thanks for the answer and sorry about the delay, but I've been rather busy and I've tried again a lot. I'm not trying to make a Mint USB, but a Betsy one. I'd rather manage to have it done without some Windows or Ubuntu tool, but with a procedure which can apply to any distro, using as less third pa...

Issues with persistent live boot

Hi everyone! I wanted to test if the instructions given here work for Betsy too, but things went not too well. Probably Jesse wants different tags for persistence. Anyway I'll describe you my full experience. I wanted to make a 32-bit recovery drive using my all-time favorite OTB distro, so I got Be...

Disabling Ethernet on LIVE install

Hi everyone! I'm using a persistent LIVE USB LMDE boot on different computers in my university. Since my campus uses some strange certificate authentication method even for the wired network and give no instructions for it on a Linux distribution, I'm using USB tethering on my Android phone with the...

Re: How to uninstall totem

Even if this strange behavior remains a mystery, Monsta's answer allowed me to remove totem successfully, so the thread's problem is solved. Can this be submitted as a LMDE's bug?

Re: caffeine on LMDE

I have to rectify once again (I hope it is the last time). Caffeine screws up my DE upon exit if it is active in the moment I quit, i.e. if he option "Disable Screensaver" is activated, automatically or manually. Doing that a second time further changes my icon set. New instances of termin...

Re: caffeine on LMDE

Update: this does not happen with previous versions: caffeine 2.6.1 does not give this problem, while 2.5 apparently gives the problem only if you crtl+C it from terminal, and doesn't if you close it from the status bar icon. My best advice is to install 2.5, the last with configure menu, so that yo...

Re: caffeine on LMDE

Hi everyone! I'm back again! I was starting over on a brand new LMDE install, so I did nothing of the previous schemas copying or things like that. Anyway, just installing gir1.2-appindicator3-0.1 makes it work: you can run caffeine directly from the bin folder, or install it the way orticultura sai...

How to uninstall totem

Moved to new thread - by Moderator Hi everyone! I hope not to necro uselessly, but I have a different problem concerning the removal of totem in LMDE, so I guessed I could avoid littering the forum with a brand new thread. I installed LMDE via the 201403 iso, meaning that I don't have both Cinnamon...

Re: Cinnamon Fallback Mode after UP8

Right, I'll include some basic hardware info which certainly can't hurt. I'm on an ASUS U36SG -RX199V, with a dual-core Intel® Core™ i7 2620M Processor @ 2.70 GHz simulating 4 virtual cores and a double graphic card setup: an Integrated Intel® HD Graphics 3000 and a NVIDIA® GeForce® 610M with 1GB DD...

Re: Cinnamon Fallback Mode after UP8

First, make sure the system is fully updated. apt dist-upgrade should tell you something like 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Yeah, it was fully updated. Then install mint-meta-debian-cinnamon . I did, it installed something like 53.6 MB of data, meaning that it effec...

Cinnamon Fallback Mode after UP8

I know that the previous topic warned about that, but you know, I never happen to do things right, and when mint-updater propped me the huge amount of updates I went straight into them like I do every time a minor amount of updates occurs. Did not know, and went through one Update Pack unharmed, so ...

pluma: Different color schemes for different file types

Hi everyone! I use the default MATE text editor, forked from gedit, for everything. From plain text files, to C++ programs, to LaTeX documents. In C++, The color scheme I like the best is Cobalt, its blue background helps every different string to stand out being easily recognized amongst the other,...

Re: When ALT+F2 gets stuck...

Update: As for the Cinnamon restart crash I mentioned, it is no issue. It happened 100% of the times I restarted, and I thought it was because I heavily customized my DE with multiple mistakes in between and might have screwed it up making it unstable, and I planned of fixing it when I had time, sin...

When ALT+F2 gets stuck...

Hi everyone! Me again, in different trouble. I happen to use the combination of keyboard keys ALT+F2 a lot, mainly to launch simple hand-made bash scripts which allow me to get to specific web pages I open a lot of times every day with a simple four keys word. But sometimes, something dreadful happe...

Re: Boot LMDE.iso from bootable USB Stick with Grub2

Wow, thanks for signaling that, it looks like a really outstanding piece of software. I'll definitely look into it and play some time with the thing. Can you just give me some anticipations? ⋅ Does it work with compressed archives containing all the nécessaire to be booted (I mean zips, ra...
