Strange - what repo's are you using? Anything custom? When you run

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
does it complete?

Re: install from a USB stick.

Maybe Rufus is more modern and more powerful. But I'm not sure. In my experience, I've found this to be true for the performance part. Used Unetbootin for many years, and then in Jan 2017 switched to Rufus and was amazed by the speed it writes. It's not really more "modern", the features ...

Also, what LM 18.1 version are you using - Cinnamon, Mate, KDE, or Xfce? Bc I believe the default file manager is different for all of them... Cinnamon is Nemo Mate is Caja KDE is Dolphin Xfce is Thunar I believe So it might be slightly different depending on which version of Mint you are running, b...

Re: a problem connecting to wi-fi

Like Rob said, knowing your hardware info will be important here, however if I were to guess - the newer Linux versions are using a kernel that is unsupported initially by your wireless adapter..? Just my thought, but maybe that is wrong...let us know the postback from inxi

Thanks!

Re: Looking for good RDP server/guide

So you have a Linux desktop and a Windows desktop setup on 2 separate machines, correct? And you're trying to use the Linux box to RDP into the Windows box, correct? Or the other way around? To go from Linux to Windows, I've used Remmina with great success (Borat voice) - let me know on the question...

Re: How do I disable hibernate?

While I do not use Mint's version of KDE, 5.8 I believe, on KDE Neon's version, 5.9, I accomplished this by: 1) Going into System Settings > Desktop Behavior > Screen Locking > Updating the time in which the screen will turn off 2) Going into System Settings > Power Management > Energy Saving > Unch...

Re: Where are my System Properties?

Also in Mate, for options like "Desktop", "Driver Manager", "Sound", "Printers", etc etc - look for the Control Center. It should have all those options for you to manage. I know it's for the 17.3 edition, but I don't believe one for version 18 is available, b...

Re: outlook.com on Linux Mint not working

Yes - this must be something with the way your college's Outlook.com site redirects. I use Firefox on many different Linux distros to access Exchange servers via Outlook.com daily, but I'm glad you got Chrome to work for you. Welcome to the Mint community btw!

Re: Is Linux Mint the right choice for me? [SOLVED]

IMO - Mint is the best/easiest choice for users going from Windows to Linux, especially if your hardware can run the Cinnamon DE. But like what was suggested earlier, get yourself the live ISO on a DVD or USB, boot into it and take a test drive

That video is for the Cinnamon desktop, you're using the Mate desktop - I do not believe the steps would be the same

Why would you want Mint to look like Win10 anyway :?

And just a word of warning before jumping to 4.10 - just make sure you are familiar with the process to go back a level if things don't turn out right. I had to do this myself recently when going to 4.10 > https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=85639

Re: Switch Kernel Back

Thank you - I had done this before, but forgotten how. I've loved having the ability to install/uninstall kernels from the Update Manager, maybe even 1 day Mint can allow you to set your default kernel from within that same area as well

Switch Kernel Back

Hello all - What's the best method to revert back to a previous kernel in Mint 18.1 Cinnamon? My current LM 18.1 box has 2 kernels installed, 4.10.0-14 and 4.8.0-46, and it is currently using the 4.10 kernel as the active one. I want to go back, but do not see exactly where to do this. Any help will...
