Re: Good resource(s) for installing games?

Take a look here for more games. Also here, and here.

These are PPAs so you're placing a level of trust in the maintainers not to bork your system.

Re: NVMe befuddling Linux

No manufacturer uses a 256GB SSD as a cache. Really? Then you'd better tell that to Lenovo. LENOVO LEGION Y520 The Y520 comes with up to 512GB of PCIe SSD storage, ideal for reducing boot-up time and in-game loading, or 2TB of HDD storage, perfect for storing your entire gaming collection. Or you c...

Re: NVMe befuddling Linux

Linux installer has no problem with NVMe M.2 drives. Did you even read the other posts? Mint installer definitely has a problem with M.2 drives if they are in RAID. Did you even read the other posts? That device is labelled RAID but it isn't RAID, it's hybrid. The M.2 is acting as a cache for the H...

Cat... You're a level 9 user, and I'm level 1 with limited experience so I have more questions than you're probably willing to deal with. That's just an indicator of posts I've made. There are people here who do nothing but welcome new members to boost their score :) First off I would rather keep t...

Re: How do I NOT install VBox Guest Additions?

I can't guarantee anything for you, I'm sorry. All I can give you is how I would approach what you want to achieve. Rather than using a VM I'd get a clean installation going on a spare disk then image that. It reduces the surface area of things that can go wrong.

Maybe the KDE techpage are outdated (2015)

I think they make assumptions about where linux distributions put their files. The info seems to be reasonably current.

Re: No sound from microphone on Asus

Install pavucontrol and see if you can detect and set the microphone there. Failing that, go into a terminal and run alsamixer. Pressing F4 should get you to sound capture devices.

Re: Linux install to flash drive?

Your interpretation aligns with my prior understanding that although SSDs can fragment the same as HDDs do, fragmentation is basically irrelevant, since the SSD has no moving parts whose efficiency will be decreased by having to perform more seek operations to read fragmented files as compared to c...

Re: Creating and customizing a theme

I followed the first link and got to this page ThemeDetails . You're right. It seems to have the information you need, but you have to find the theme files first. I searched in dolphin and found them here: /usr/share/plasma/desktoptheme/ catweazel@Fenella ~ $ ls -l /usr/share/plasma/desktoptheme/ to...

Re: Remmina vs Vpro AMT ?

I run xfce on my servers and can shut them down over remmina. WOL is handled by your machine's BIOS so it's independent of remmina. As long as the machine is setup for WOL it ought to work.

Re: Need help about partitioning for dual boot

Your drive is setup for the MBR partitioning scheme, which means you can have a maximum of 4 primary partitions, and you're at that limit now. You also don't have room to safely shrink and move a partition because D: is 90% full, and E: is 65% full. The ideal would be to have up to 3 primary partiti...

Re: Linux install to flash drive?

The problem isn't fragmentation of SSDs, it's small writes causing large blocks to be trimmed. I think the article conflates hard drive fragmentation with a recommendation for leaving part of an SSD drive empty. This only applies to HDDs where least 15% free space is required on a Windwoes HDD so it...

Re: Linux install to flash drive?

AFAIK they are two separate, but important, things. You want to leave some of the free space unformatted to use as spare wear leveling cells, but you also want to avoid filling the formatted filesystem beyond 80% full to avoid file fragmentation. Fragmentation is completely irrelevant on SSDs. No m...
