Re: Abit Nervous , I have some questions

Hi JerseyRail, The only thing I read recently was to disable c-states and maybe use a Linux Kernel 5.2 See this post Finally [SOLVED] no reboot or shutdown (a 6 month tale of woe with kernel 5) - Linux Mint Forums https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=300034&sid=a927ab6118a83be54d20c940...

Re: Cinnamon freezing after nvidia driver installation

Hello. As absolute newbie I recently installed Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon on Lenovo SL500 with GeForce 9300M GS. That card dates back to 2009. That could be the root of the problem. Perhaps a BIOS update is called for. Nevertheless your post leaves out a lot of important information, so please post t...

Re: 19.0 - Login-Screen - GUI-Login not possible

Additional, possibly unrelated problem: On booting, the system does not display the regular GRUB-menu (which allows to select Advanced options, Memory test etc.). So no chance to avoid the following problem by selecting an older kernel. Other than this, the system boots seemingly normal and goes to...

Can any of you suggest a card that will work for me?
Pretty much any PCIe Intel NIC will do.

Re: Finally [SOLVED] no reboot or shutdown (a 6 month tale of woe with kernel 5)

Please pardon my ignorance, but what are "C" states and why are they important to using Linux on an AMD system? I was running (albeit a short time) my AMD 1700 on an X370 mobo for a short time with no issues. So now I am worried that if I build a Ryzen system it will bork itself if I run Linux. The...

Re: Finally [SOLVED] no reboot or shutdown (a 6 month tale of woe with kernel 5)

The discussion is a bit broken, part is on a bug report, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-hwe/+bug/1838644 The rest happened on Freenode IRC #ubuntu-kernel, the final bit was <tjaalton> Timo Aaltonen lotuspsychje: no need to test anything, since I know what's going on lotuspsychje: 5...

Re: screen tearing or glitching on GeForce 9400

Wanderingaria, welcome to the LinuxMint forum, Great that you got LinuxMint running on your old Apple computer! Nvidia graphics have been known to cause issues on Linux for many years now. In the driver manager it probably states that Nvidia is the recommended driver, but you can safely ignore that...

Not if you wish to suspend or hibernate, and not if you don't have, say, 8GB of RAM or more.

It isn't a "regular file", it's the system's swap file, used to swap things in and out of memory to keep your machine running smoother.

Re: Anyone have success with Ryzen 3000 CPUs + NVidia GTX and RTX cards?

I'm curious if anyone has met with success using Ryzen 3000 CPUs along with a GTX 10 series or RTX 20 series graphics card (single card) with Mint v19 or v19.2? My wife/son just gave me a big birthday surprise... a new PC with a Ryzen 7 3700x CPU, a AMD RX 5700 graphics card, and fruit-flavored las...

Any chance the problem machine has Ethernet using the r8169 kernel module? Indeed... e1000e 245760 0 r8169 81920 0 Can you try a 4.18 kernel to see if that works? Re: Turn Wifi Power Management: On

Why in the world would power management have anything to do with AM radio interference? Wifi is using 2.5 GHz and commercial AM radio is in kHz Signal drenching can happen across frequencies if the OP is close to a transmitter, especially if the transmitter is close to the 1.5-1.6GHz upper AM band....

Re: Finally [SOLVED] no reboot or shutdown (a 6 month tale of woe with kernel 5)

lot to think about if you use ryzen and which way to go. right now the latest amdgpu-pro does not install with dkms I think your post may end up confusing someone. You seem to have conflated AMDGPU-PRO issues with Ryzen issues. My Ryzen rigs run fine and have no issues however I don't use AMD GPUs ...

I do both your suggestions however I still feel a lot of static. Maybe I am better off biting the bullet and getting a housing. You will need to be careful there too. I was researching them recently and at least one brand of USB 3 housing powers down the drives after 10 minutes. Bye-bye data if you...

I'm currently using wget to download the newest Google Chrome. It seems to be very straight forward ...
