Re: Google ditches Ubuntu for Debian

Yes they did. By paying for their Canonical support... When I wrote "apart from money for a commercial operation" I was excluding money paid to a commercial entity. What you say goes without saying. By the way, in order to prevent misunderstandings: the contributions that Google will make...

When I was young, the operating system consumed a whopping 3kB. User space was 1kB, and words were 4 bytes.

I'd be very cautious with BTRFS on an SSD. It can be quite aggressive and may shorten the life of your SSD considerably.

Re: Google ditches Ubuntu for Debian

This big loss for Ubuntu also means a big loss for Linux Mint. :( Anyway, because Ubuntu is built on Debian, the contributions that Google will make towards Debian, will also indirectly benefit Ubuntu/Mint. They never contributed to Ubuntu. How do you see it as a big loss, apart from money for a co...

Re: Grub Customizer: why you shouldn't use it

So long as readers of @Pjtor's thread understand the following: Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and @Pjtor's is just a personal opinion - it's not in any way the official stance of Linux Mint/Ubuntu/Debian. @Pjtor's opinion is no more valid than any other forum member, including you and me. It ...

Re: Mint has a BIG Problem; a REALLY, REALLY BIG PROBLEM!

Did anyone ask this individual for any details? Why not? There is no excuse for not asking. The poster was venting his spleen about a problem that has little to do with Mint. Based on experience, the user name and number of posts made by the OP are indicative of the OP not intending to return so th...

Re: Reinstall Mint to encrypt HD

Hi, and welcome. You can download a Mint iso and burnit to a flash drive. Rufus on Windwoes works well. As for encryption, I'm inclined to suggest you leave it alone until you're a little more comfortable with linux in general. If you've used TrueCrypt on Windwoes you'll be pleased to hear it's also...

Re: Sprt receipt printer sp-pos88vuf

If the printer came with a driver CD, check that. Contact the people you bought it from. Find a compatible printer and try its driver, or as a last resort, try the manufacturer: http://sprt-06.bossgoo.com/

Unfortunately you'll likely have to find the source and compile it because 0.25 is the version in the repos.

Re: individual software upgrade

Is there something wrong with the version you're running? It was last updated for Xenial on 2016-12-16, so it isn't so old.

Re: 18.3 Sylvia - Sound cracking with external USB sound card

In a terminal: sudo nano -w /etc/pulse/default.pa Look for this line: load-module module-udev-detect Add tsched=0 to the end of the line, like this: load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0 ctrl-o, enter to save, then ctrl-x to exit. Reboot. Give that a try. If it doesn't fix the issue, reverse the e...

Re: Moving mdadm array to new case, any concerns?

You shouldn't need to do anything beyond mdadm -assemble --scan but the only way to find out is to try it. It seems that the more recent releases of mdadm auto-write their configuration. At least that's what happened when I moved my 10-disk RAID 10 arrays to a new box.

You don't say when this occurs... at initial login after boot, after resuming from a suspend or hibernate, at some other point?
