I had the same problem. Solved it by killing nemo. And then using dconf-editor to restore all values in org->nemo to the default values.

Ctrl-o + Enter to save, ctrl-x to exit.
I see your Ctrl-o + Enter and I raise you a Ctrl+S. ;)

Re: Edit and save read-only files

I put you command, I changed the value from 7 to 10, and in the file when I used ctrl + o I got this message [ Error writing /sys/devices/platform/dell-laptop/backlight/dell_backlight/max_brightness] [ Error writing max_brightness: Permission denied ] Oh, /sys/devices/ is a place for devices to dum...

Re: free online password generators: yay or nay

In the second place, The xkcd scheme (and my how-to as well) tells you to use four *random* words, separated by spaces (I advise dashes instead). Random . Which means of course: not words containing any personal information. Nor words which form a regular sentence. My custom password gene...

Re: Edit and save read-only files

I have an old Dell Latitude D830 and I wanted to add more brightness to the screen. So I installed Brightness Indicator and I saw that max number is 7. I looked on brightness folder with super user rights /sys/devices/platform/dell-laptop/backlight/dell_backlight $ sudo su - and I opened the max_br...

Yes, but who mandated UEFI in modern OEM computers.? Someone has to make the first move otherwise we'd all still be using rocks and abaci. So says someone who is using open-source software. . Modern UEFI firmware is a closed-source, proprietary blob of software baked into your PC’s hardware. This b...

My keyboard has a left Alt key and on the right is an AltGr key. Alt and SysRq are too far apart to hold together with one hand. Is it possible to use AltGr + SysRq?

I do have a concern about the RAID (BIOS re-detected drive order differently, hence mountlist for the RAID is screwy. Thank God for superblocks! I'll make a new thread for this, though. This one is [SOLVED] well enough for me.

Re: Sudo is not known on line 1 in source list Help Please

I'm trying to install a program and I've been having a lot of trouble with not being able to read sudo since it's not in the source list. I don't know how to fix it and I'm really confused. It says E: Type 'Sudo' is not known on line 1 in source list and that the list of sources could not be read. ...

Ok, based on your response, you probably don't have anything to worry about but I would still check the SMART values for the drives.

Re: LM18.3 queries on boot fsck check

One more thing to check, run the Disks utility and select SMART Data & Self-Tests. I think that for the RAID arrays, you'll have to stop them completely before you can check the disks.

Re: LM18.3 queries on boot fsck check

Ok, you can try unmounting the drives then running sudo fsck -f /dev/sdXN where X is the letter and N is the partition number to check. You can also try sudo fsck -f /dev/md0 and sudo fsck -f /dev/md1 . These will reveal if there are any file system issues. Make sure you unmount the drive being chec...

Re: LM18.3 queries on boot fsck check

To start with, you should update your BIOS, reboot and see if the message reappears. If it does, I'll need the dmesg output. Ooer! Touché A hit, a palpable hit! In my defence I had upgraded it back when still running Win but it broke the RAID functionality of the mobo so I reverted. In my head it w...

Re: LM18.3 queries on boot fsck check

Hmmm... dmesg generates output longer than the forum will accept. You prefer it trimmed or in multi-part? It should be ok if you paste it between code markers. If need be, split it up rather than trim it. http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/890FX%20Deluxe4/#BIOS To start with, you should update your BIOS,...

Re: LM18.3 queries on boot fsck check

1. Has LM18+ always done this? No. (Would the RAID to be mounted this early?) Possibly. 2. Every so often, instead of a quick flash of text I can actually see the % counter whizzing thru 0 to 100%. It still only takes a second or so but it does suggest that there was something that needed checking....
