Re: Why can't my computer mount my tablet?

No it's still not solved. It's a bit of a hit and miss. I get it as well. Sometimes I get the errors. Sometimes it will mount. Not as easy on my Android 7 phone where I had to give it permission every time. My older one was better. Plug and play. Connect it up and it mounts on the desktop. Please d...

Re: New Kernel - Best Practice? 4.4.0 -112

What do you guys do with new Kernel treats? Sit on 'em awhile and watch sites to recommend them or install with faith and report any bugs? Yikes! Normally I would install a new kernel as soon as it arrived, however 4.14 (out of tree) was a disaster that required me to fall back to the 4.13 series. ...

Re: Kernel question

4.10 is end of life and no longer receives updates. If you don't have an AM4 socket CPU (Ryzen, A8 and A10), you'd be better off on kernel 4.4.

Torvalds declares patches "complete garbage" - Intel says Don't Deploy Faulty Patches

Three interesting articles on the recent patch-frenzy: Intel: Don't Deploy Our Faulty Spectre Patches The company is now advising users to stop deploying the current versions of its patches, as they 'may introduce higher than expected reboots and other unpredictable system behavior.' Stop installing...

Re: KDE plamsa - Creating custom full/empty icons for trash widget

Okay, got it. The svg files are indeed the thing we want here. Unfortunately, while GIMP will open/view .svg files, it apparently won't export to .svg; it says to choose a known file extension. But after Googling, I downloaded the program "Inkscape", which is something something edit sour...

Re: Protocol error running Dolphin on Cinnamon

That makes perfect sense. However, it leads an intelligent person to question why it is allowed to be installed on Cinnamon if it doesn't work correctly and the proper dependencies cannot be identified and installed as part of the package. Installing dependencies does not equate to tight integratio...

Re: KDE plamsa - Creating custom full/empty icons for trash widget

The trash icon is controlled by the theme. All you should need do is find the two trash icons and replace them with your preferred icons. Take a look in /usr/share/plasma/desktoptheme/ . Also, a filename search for trash in /usr/share/ will reveal a stack of trash icons belonging to different themes...

EDIT: Here's my own Windows screenshot of what I'm trying emulate, or as close I can, anyway: https://i.imgur.com/gkRjeXE.jpg Easy as. You create a new menu entry in some unused submenu and add the command dolphin "/full_path_to_folder" , including the quotes. Set your desired icon then a...

I'm not 100% sure but I'm fairly confident that the mods might jump on that as discussions about cracking of any kind is prohibited on these forums. Re: Need newbie explanation on /mnt versus /media

Technically, there is no functional difference whatsoever between the two. /mnt is a standard directory, as is /media/... The difference is in what they should be used for, emphasis on should. /media is supposed to be the mount point for removable media while /mnt is for temporary mounts initiated b...
