Re: Using Windows 10 was like...

I use a Garmin navigation system. We have replaced the Garmin maps with maps from OpenStreetMaps. I don't think that works for all brands and models, but for ours it does. ...

Yes they do play in a browser.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install --reinstall mint-meta-codecs
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
Try that.

Windows Defender has detected the Zeus Virus on my computer, with a sub window asking for a user name and password. Plus a phone number for me to immediately call.
Realistically, If you're on linux, how can Windwoes Defender detect anything. Obviously it's a scam.

Perhaps not. It sounds like the lock screen got activated during the install after a period of time with no activity.

Using Windows 10 was like...

I just had to fire up Windwoes 10 to update my NavMan GPS before going on a 3000km road trip next weekend. Unfortunately there's no way to update the device without Windwoes. After the customary 1 hour long forced upgrade of the OS, using Windwoes felt like I was bathing in someone else's dirty bath...

datadir=/media/mike/W10\ D\ drive/My\ Documents/dbases/w10_data_dir Try putting quotes around that parameter and removing the escapes. Like this: datadir="/media/mike/W10 D drive/My Documents/dbases/w10_data_dir" If that doesn't work, you might try changing the label of the drive and creating a pat...

Re: What is the "correct" way to make a simple command run when Linux Mint boots to the desktop?

I am trying out Ubuntu 18-04 MATE and the file rc.local simply isn't there any more, so I'm sure there's a better way, probably involving systemd . Good luck with that. Just fyi, this is the new rigmarole: https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-automatically-execute-shell-script-at-startup-boot-on-systemd-...
