Re: Using bcache and preload, need an SSD?

I used preload and prelink on Mint 18.2 KDE, which did make the system significantly faster. Prelinking killed every Cinnamon installation I tried it on. There's no point using bcache unless you want to make use of a tiny SSD. I can't vouch for the effectiveness of preload as I have 3.2GB/s NVMe.

Not having it set to AHCI has caused problems before not seeing any disks.

Maybe I should make another thread titled Take The Test. Are You Quick To Judge? and you can post there too ...

lol - if you took offence then so sad for you. It was, after all, only a joke.

The problem with that is you don't get to see if the distro runs ok on your kit. All you get to verify is that it runs in a VM.

Re: Partitioned Drive, What does this Linux Mint message mean?

A question I have is why would you have a NTFS partition for data :? Why not ext4 :?: For the simple reason that if linux goes belly up then the data is readable in a Windwoes machine if it ever became necessary. I have multiple 6TB HWRAID 10 sets and all of them are NTFS for that reason. Of course...

This smells like a bios problem.

Or a RAM problem. It's probably a good idea to run memtest.
