"NVIDIA X Server Settings", is installed. I can't save settings as no xorg.conf exists ... and this may not be the best solution. https://s13.postimg.org/idff03blf/Screenshot_20171218_173111.png Click the button, navigate to /etc/X11/ and save the file as xorg.conf, replacing the default ...

That doesn't deal with the poster's needs. Our role is not to question why an OP wants to do X, it's to answer questions and resolve issues.

Re: Need to manually enable wireless interface on boot

If those commands work for you then put them in /etc/rc.local before the line that reads exit 0 and without sudo:

Code: Select all

sudo nano -w /etc/rc.local

ctrl-o <enter> to save.
ctrl-x to exit.

Reboot.

Re: USB Mixer

I went to the website and looked at the pictures, I also downloaded and read the manual for you. Specifically see the picture to the left of the heading "Comprehensive connectivity for all your audio needs". From reading the manual and looking at that picture, it doesn't use USB for sound,...

[quote="GaryD"] My New Speaker's Connection https://i.imgur.com/rfCIbk4.jpg That's not a picture of the connector, it's a picture of a cable so it isn't possible to tell you what kind of cable you might consider. Also, your stereo output is actually mono. Your adapter in the second picture...

Re: Screen Tearing

See this tutorial

It's for nvidia only so I son't know how it will go with your integrated Intel video. Nevertheless give it a try. If it creates problems you can always delete the xorg.conf the tutorial gets you to create, then reboot.

Can you start a live session? Please post the output of this terminal command: inxi -Fxz Enclose the results in code markers, which you can select from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply. How old is the machine? You might want to run memtest for a few hours, at least 8 hour...

Re: How can I extend the session for specific websites in Chrome?

Well, it fulfills your first request. You could have added the extra information to save wasting time. You might have to do some searching in the chrome store. Perhaps something like Session Buddy might do what you want.

Yes. As I said, you'll need to go back to Mint 17.3 to get a system with appropriate proprietary drivers.

Cheers.

What am I doing wrong?

Nothing. You're using nvidia prime, which is used to support hybrid Intel and nvidia GPUs. That would explain why you don't get the tab. You'll have to wait for someone with experience in that setup. Sorry, I can't help you further.

Re: No HDMI and no 3rd party video drivers.

Oh, you have a 5730. AMD has dropped linux support for that card. The drivers are available only for Mint 17.3, IIRC. Any linux distro that uses x.org > 1.15 must use the open-source drivers, which is what you have now.

Did you look in the menu and type driver to find the driver manager?
