Nobody cares ? :( No. This is an international forum so the people who can help you might be asleep or away on holiday or otherwise doing something with their life. This is why the forum rules specify 48 hours before you can or should bump a topic, not 14 hours. Also, we are volunteers so there is ...

Re: Will mint run with 2 Xeon processors

I was looking at a local auction house for a replacement laptop and noticed that they are offering some servers with twin Xeon E5620 Quad Core processors and 24Gb Ram. I'm half considering purchasing one as my media server. Could I use it as a normal PC? Any tricks/traps for the unwary user? It wil...

If I have a USB external drive attached, can I safely unplug it after selecting "unmount" from the Nemo menu?
Yes.
EdB wrote:That is, is 'unmount' equivalent to Windows 'safely remove"?
Sort of. The drive won't unmount if something on it is in use.

Please post the output of this terminal command:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
Enclose the results between [ⅽode] and [/ⅽode] code markers by selecting </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply. Note that it's a capital F in that command, followed by lower case xz.

Re: Uninstalling fonts

This is not a trivial problem. If you don't have a reasonably handy way of viewing, installing and deleting fonts your computer is useless for simple graphic design tasks. What does the rest of the world do? @AZgl1500 gave you a link directly to the instructions to follow. sudo apt-get -y --purge a...

my only concern is direct ethernet wired speed...first post has all this info... I beg to differ. The first post went on and on about wifi. It led me to give the response that you got snarky about, so other posters have also been misled. Your first post says absolutely nothing about not being inter...

just a few hours ago, Firefox popped up a security warning for this forum's website and would not allow me to even see the forum.
I don't have that issue, and the site is using TLS 1.2.

Unfortunately, it doesn't get as far as the terminal. It gets stuck at startup

Re: hard drive partition

/boot - 500MB (but only if installing on UEFI/GPT disk If a separate boot is used then it should be 500MB irrespective of the partition types, I think. We often see people here with broken systems due to a lack of space from not clearing out old kernels. 500MB gives a good buffer from that problem.

They only provide CLI, although it works, but if Cinnamon has a GUI like Gnome does, that would be better
If Gnome has a gui and it's in the repositories then install it.

Re: 2 monitors, different resolutions

(PS... I was using a Nvidia GT210 graphics card but this was the same) This is a limitation of VGA. It can't do 1440 x 900, which is WXGA(II). The problem will be your very old video card and the connections it provides. Given the age of that card is close to 11 or so years, it's probably time to u...
