Re: Update Manager Problem

https://rethinkdb.com/blog/rethinkdb-shutdown/ Today I have sad news to share. After more than seven years of development, the company behind RethinkDB is shutting down. We worked very hard to make RethinkDB successful, but in spite of all our efforts we were ultimately unable to build a sustainable...

Re: I wonder if this would work... criticism and suggestions welcome

The question is why Ubuntu server worked better for you than LM19. You seem to think it's just about how it set up the partition, in which case you should be able to skip the server install step and just figure out what it does and create your partitions accordingly. I did that already. It seems te...

Re: I wonder if this would work... criticism and suggestions welcome

I can't imagine what you're doing that needs RAID 0 because your 3,200 GB/s NVMe drives are too slow . I like speed :) Or that you'd see any significant or even noticeable difference with RAID 0 on such drives except in benchmarks. Actually, the difference is markedly noticeable. Real world applica...

Re: Data recovery in mint

> Assuming that the entire disk is wiped out, I need to recover data . Please guide me in recovering data I find the process of recovery in Linux complicated when compared to using programs like Easus in windows. If the drive you want to recover from has been written to by the Mint installer, I'm a...

I wonder if this would work... criticism and suggestions welcome

A few years back I created a tutorial on how to install Mint 18 to boot from RAID 0. I went through it recently to see if it still worked on Mint 19. It did, sort of, and not without a lot of pain; the final result was very unsatisfactory. I recently became aware that Ubuntu Server has an alternate ...

Re: Baloo installed but Search has never worked

On Mint 18.3 KDE. Have never been able to use Dolphin's search functions. All I've done about it is confirmed baloo is installed. Search settings all appear fine- all plugins checked, & am not excluding anywhere. Not sure what steps I should take to troubleshoot this. So am here for advice. Please ...

Re: Installing KDE Plasma on Mint 19 Tara (Cinnamon)

I installed KDE over Cinnamon Mint 19 yesterday. Unlike the OP, I don't want to get rid of Cinnamon. It feels like home to me. But KDE has a few features I'd like to use from time to time. KDEconnect, Dolphin, and Krunner. And in desktop configurations>mouse actions, I can configure the extra mouse...

Re: Nvidia X Server settings does not load

Not sure why my inxi output differs but where it says NVIDIA 390.87, that’s the driver I installed. @caracal478 is correct. Your inxi output indicates no driver is loaded, and that the GLX renderer is recognised. You might want to do this: sudo apt remove --purge *nvidia* sudo add-apt-repository -y...

Re: a.root-servers.net

Hi, I used etherape to watch connections and had the situation where my PC was sending Kbytes of data continuously to 26 root-servers. This I had not seen before and having read somewhere that Hackers were working on DOS attacks to these Servers I assumed my PC had been turned into a Web Bot. I rei...

I'd leave it. If you don't know what multicasting is then you don't need it :)

SIP ALG, enable or disable, it is enabled as default...the 2nd one is is IGMP proxing, enable or disable, the default is at disabled..
SIP ALG should be disabled. It's a broken VoIP protocol. IGMP proxying is internet multicast.

Re: Question about Using Recoll

Does anyone have any thoughts or input on the fastest way to index a fairly large external drive? sudo apt install catfish It should do exactly what you need. What bugs me regarding catfish is by default it always reverts to the user home directory. It would be great if it remembered the last used ...

Re: Project: sync tool

That looks really good so far on both dark and light themes. Could I be a bit cheeky though and ask how the program's label is presented for the titlebar to display? What I mean by this is did you set this explicitly or is it read from some config file? The reason I ask this is that sometimes incor...

any suggestions on what im doing wrong and have not thought about.
Short run wired connections are near lossless. Wifi isn't. The router will drop speed if signal is weak.
