Re: Can't install kubuntu-desktop on Mint 19.1 XFCE

Big kudos and a large thank you to the member who built the 19.1 KDE version. I just installed and configured it and it is absolutely terrific! Every bit as good as Kubuntu, and has that Minty goodness. Personally I think you're mad installing a download from a completely unknown source. Edit: Good...

I'm out of time for today guys. I'll try to get back to this tomorrow evening.

Code: Select all

Device-1: Intel Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics
That's the problem. Unfortunately, as I suspected, I can't assist. I think you're going to have to do some research.

Re: Microsoft to axe Windows Mobile

CNBC.com: Microsoft recommends switching to iPhone or Android as it prepares to kill off Windows phones Thoughts, folks? I think it reflects Microsoft's utterly blinkered marketing and thoroughly delusional notions about Windwoes. There was enough information in the market to tell them that any att...

Re: Nvidia GTX 770 Problem in Mint 19.1

One problem I am having is getting my Nvidia GTX 770 video card to work with anything other than the x-server driver. That isn't normal, unless you have a laptop, in which case it's a common problem but I can't assist you if it is a laptop. You were asked to post the output of inxi -Fxr . Please do...

Nope it's broken - the checkbox implies it will limit the search to the linuxmint.com domain which isn't happening as the url is malformed.
So it is. My apologies.

Is there any "material" difference (speed/time) in installing an operating system
from a DVD as opposed to a USB flash drive, assuming all of the other hardware
involved is the same ?

Thanks.
Yes. Generally flash is much faster.

Re: If you want a divorce

A marriage is a lifetime contract to support your chosen partner in everything that doesn't harm either of you, or your family unit. I disagree with that sentiment. A marriage might be a contract in some cheap dictionary or in various courts of law, but first and foremost a marriage is an expressio...

Here's the error:
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 4 characters and must not contain more than 84 characters excluding wildcards.
Use google.

I think we are at an impass here. you are using the Unix version of reentrant andI am referring to the simpler safer reentrant code in common use before Unix.
Oh, you mean you're using terminology that's close to 5 decades out of date.

Re: Installation and partitioning with a limited SSD

The installation guide (at https://linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/install.html) recommends 100+ GB for the OS and software. They're feeding you nonsense. ~32GB should be more than adequate unless you plan on installing myriads of Steam games. Use the remaining space for your ...

It's time for my twice a year pilgrimage

It's one of the two times of the year that I go to Indonesia for some well-earned R&R so I want to wish everyone all the very best for the season. I haven't been around much lately because I'm busy coding a personal backup program for Linux. It's nearly ready for a beta release, and tentatively call...

Re: Encrypting home folder

I note that the OP posted on 8 December and didn't receive a reply. There's probably a good reason for it, which I'll explain. Setting up encryption isn't for the faint-hearted and can lead to your losing all your treasured stuff if you don't have a backup and aren't 100% sure of what you are doing....

Re: how to set my system up

what I want to do is add an M.2 drive and put the system on that and create a /home partition on the 1TB disk What a waste of a perfectly good M.2 drive. At most you'll use ~32GB of it, which will leave you with a lot of unused space. You'd be better off putting a home partition on the M.2 with the...

I know there's similar questions in different forums but I've tried almost everything.
You need to try a new hard disk. Yours has died. You can try booting from a live media but there's no guarantee the drive will be seen so you may have to rely on your backups to get your treasured stuff back.
