Re: LMDE 2 - Best LM - at least for me!

The upgrade didn't work for me and I followed the instructions from the link in the sticky. I got to step 6 (before being finished and to the last step i.e. reboot) but couldn't get any further since there were various errors.

Re: Updating existing LMDE 1 Systems to LMDE 2

When I tried to upgrade - update - not all the Cinnamon packages updated/upgraded. I could not log in as the Cinnamon desktop (i.e. session) would not load. So, I had to choose between Cinnamon - software rendering (which also didn't work) or Gnome Fallback. But, when I chose Gnome Fallback, I had n...

Re: Updating existing LMDE 1 Systems to LMDE 2

could you please post the output of apt policy mintupdate mintupdate-debian ??? There's nothing to post. Cinnamon desktop is screwed up. I can only log in with Gnome fallback and there's no mouse. I'm installing something else on that partition and can't wait to erase LMDE - what junk! Good luck wi...

It sucks. The update/upgrade experience does. I'll be installing something else - not Mint or any flavour - soon. See ya.

Re: Updating existing LMDE 1 Systems to LMDE 2

Mint update doesn't work after the update/upgrade, too. Well, for me. I don't know if this is typical or some step was faulty. But, here's the output after I try it in terminal: # mintupdate (gksu:4023): GConf-WARNING **: Client failed to connect to the D-BUS daemon: Did not receive a reply. Possibl...

Re: Updating existing LMDE 1 Systems to LMDE 2

I don't trust the OP's info and I warn other readers to be wary, too. I didn't get that far. I get: [code]N: Ignoring file 'deb-multimedia-keyring_2014.2_all.deb.1' in directory '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/' as it has an invalid filename extension N: Ignoring file 'deb-multimedia-keyring_2014.2_all.deb...

Re: full of bugs

I have no idea what happened. I guess I could have googled the problem (not sure, what the search field would consist of, though) - skype frozen? I rebooted and then when I tried skype again, it worked normally. But, I've never encountered it before and I use skype regularly - whether it's Ubuntu or...

LMDE 2 RC: full of bugs

I won't be using 2 (betsy). They should have called it, Bugsy for the amount of bugs it'll have. I have to boot up Ubuntu or my Debian OS since I can't use skype in LMDE - just now. I click to use it but nothing happens. I'm tired of the lack of support you guys give LMDE - why not just get rid of i...

Re: Upgrading kernels

It really depends on what the definition of valid is. Supported or recommended for most users? I highly doubt it. Possible? Sure, you did it. Guaranteed to be stable? Anybody's guess. If I were using LMDE, I wouldn't go beyond using what is available to me via its software manager (so by extension ...

Re: Mint with KDE fail

All these posts and still not one sign of a specific error message. I'm loath to ask exactly what is said. Package Manager has lost of stuff for mtp. I see kio-mtp (a plugin specifically noted to work with KDE), mtptools, clementine and some others. In addition a simple search like "mtp device...

Re: 'live disk' issue?

Can I ask what program or method you use for your live media? Anything that allows persistent storage? I thought the Driver Manager displayed what binary drivers I could use? The message is to only display they're not in use? I am sure the intent isn't to have it run like that - just a grey screen. ...

Re: i3 vs i5 or i7

If your current CPU is easily able to handle all the tasks, and you don't expect much more in the future. Then the i3 CPU will do fine I reckon. If memory is running full, then if possible get more RAM. I think that's the best thing you can do to upgrade. I agree with this post. Is the OP buying an...

Re: Mint with KDE fail

In fact, KDE tries to achieve far better sync with mobile device. Check this out... https://community.kde.org/KDEConnect Well, it doesn't work in Kubuntu or Mint 17 with KDE - for me. if it works for X (you or anyone else), great. My experience is that there is something inherently different going ...

Re: Please suggest Linux version(s) for new user

I've had so-so experiences with YUMI. It's never good enough to use over dd./ I've had so-so experiences with YUMI also, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I've only tried to install from YUMI once. YUMI's devs says it isn't meant for that, but good luck trying, it might work. What is DD? ht...

'live disk' issue?

I just checked a live edition of Mint 17 but the Driver Manager is just blank grey. Is this applicable to other nvidia card owners? I don't know what happens with other video hardware. It's just a blank grey box with 'Driver Manager' and 'No proprietary drivers are in use' at the lower left bottom c...

Re: How to make multiboot USB with Easy2Boot in Linux

Does NOT work. Forget these crappy programs that don't work. They use youtube videos but don't know how to turn up their volume prompting comments about that. Check that out. Just use dd as it is quite reliable. I tried to boot live images from this program and just got a mess of error messages. I'l...

Re: Please suggest Linux version(s) for new user

I've had so-so experiences with YUMI. It's never good enough to use over dd. Did anyone try Easy2Boot? What a pile of crap. The developer or someone made a youtube video but you can't even hear the guy. So, they can put the 'required files' together but don't know how to increase volume buttons. The...

Re: Does Mint just copy the ubuntus?

OP, do the photos just on the phone not work or all of them, including pictures on your hard drive? The phone doesn't connect properly. I think Kubuntu/Mint 17 (w/KDE) must implement the mtp protocol differently or something. I don't have any other explanation. I just get error messages and I think...

Re: Mint with KDE fail

If they don't care, I don't care. :) It's the 'chat section' so I was just giving my two cents. I filed bug reports when I tried it on Kubuntu. I checked Kubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17 w/KDE gave the same experience. I don't know what is being done with that version of KDE but since I have had bett...
