Bear Simulator Kickstarter needs help for Linux stretch goal

They have about 44 hours left to get another ~10,000 dollars. Could be close.

Re: How Long will a Pentium 4 be able to run Linux Mint?

If you use a lightweight desktop like LXDE or Xfce you'll get a lot more out of older hardware.

Yes!

I've been waiting for this for a long time. Now there are two major DRM-free stores for Linux games (GOG and the Humble Store). It's good for Steam to have competition, because I hate DRM and never buy anything that includes it.

Re: Vote for Linus Torvards in CNBC

Done. But he seems very far from Steve Jobs... Steve Jobs would have amounted to precisely nothing if not for Wozniak and Atari pioneers Nolan Bushnell and Al Alcorn. Bushnell hired Jobs at Atari and Wozniak did most of Jobs' work. The first Apple computer was made out of parts taken from Bushnell'...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

MATE.

I hate Unity and GNOME3 with a passion and while I love Xfce, I wanted to get back to a GNOME2 look and feel for awhile. Mint was the only reasonable choice.

Re: What is your opinion about SSD?

I am currently still using 7200 RPM HDDs. My gaming rig needs the space and it already runs and boots plenty fast for me. The laptop I may move over to an SSD if/when the HDD fails, but at present I don't think the performance increase is worth the price considering I have no complaints about how th...

Re: What is your favorite or least favorite desktop

My favorite is either Xfce or MATE. I use them both consistently. I like traditional desktop metaphors with logically laid-out, text-based menus. I don't use Cinnamon so I can't comment on that. I hate Unity with a passion. It is counter-intuitive and in my way. I don't like the dock on the side, I ...

Re: How do you guys deal with Linux haters? O.o

I don't really care what other people use on their computers, nor what they think about what I use. That said, it's pretty clear Linux is just going to keep getting bigger. Between Android, Kindle Fire, ChromeOS, Raspberry Pi, SteamOS, System 76, the continued growth of traditional desktop distros (...

Re: SteamOS have you tried it?

I actually hate Steam as a program and platform, so no. I'm very glad that it is bringing more attention, games, and driver support to Linux but in general I am not a fan of digital distribution. I only buy digital media of any sort if it's 100% DRM-free, and the vast majority of Steam content is la...

Re: I think Mint 17 will be a v big release for open source

I'm very much enjoying Petra but I'm always interested in a new LTS release.

I'm more of a MATE/Xfce guy myself as opposed to Cinnamon but it's all good. As long as nobody tries to make me use GNOME3, Unity, or KDE.

Re: How to make Linux more successful on the desktop?

Progress is being made. Chromebooks, SteamOS machines, System 76, Raspberry Pi, and other such endeavors would have been crazy talk when I first got into Linux. I bought a netbook with Linux preloaded from Newegg a few years back; that's not something you could have done in 2005. I think the prevale...

Re: Best web browser for Linux mint 2013.

Opera. Opera Link keeps my bookmarks synched between my laptop, tablet, phone and desktop (but only when I tell it to). It's also the only browser that looks appealing to me out of the box; I think Firefox is clunky looking and Chromium is too minimal. I like having a dedicated search bar, I like my...

Re: What leads to distro preferences?

Here are the things I look for in an OS: 1. Stability. Does it freeze? Do my apps crash? 2. Compatibility. Does it work with all my hardware (video card, WiFi card, camera, etc)? Do my games work? My programs (Opera, VLC, Spotify, Netflix, Steam, etc)? 3. Look and feel. I like text-based menus and t...

Re: Mega Man creator launches Kickstarter, Linux CONFIRMED

The first two stretch goals have been met, which means that there will be two extra levels and boss fights, plus Linux and Mac versions.

The next stretch goal is 1.5 million for New Game Plus and Turbo. Right now it's sitting and 1.36 million and climbing.

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

Xfce has been my favorite since the first time I tried it, way back in Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon. I also liked GNOME2 (who didn't?), so naturally I like MATE. I use LXDE on my netbook and legacy machines and am very happy with it. It's much lighter than Xfce but so much more refined than Fluxbox or other ...

Re: What is Ubuntu Doing to drive them here?

I still use Xubuntu on my primary PC, but also have Mint, PC-BSD, Fedora, and Lubuntu installed. My big problem with Ubuntu, like many others, was Unity. It has gotten better in terms of actual functionality but it's still a horrible chore to actually use. Maybe I'm just a curmudgeon but I don't see...
