Re: Spotify Free

The deal with Spotify Free is that you "pay" by allowing ads. There is a simple way around the problem... Upgrade to Spotify Premium, bada-bing, bada-boom, gone ! :D

Is there a broken player plugin or did I f-ck up

Re: Do I need a SWAP file or partition? (8GB RAM)

Having a swap partition is necessary for hibernation and I think for suspend. It is also a safety precaution should you run out of RAM. However, Linux does not swap unless it has to, and with 8GB RAM that is not likely to happen often :) So the answer is, technically you do not need it but I would V...

Re: Looking to buy new computer. Would Mint work on this?

If Windows 8 truly doesn't allow Linux to be installed, how are people going to get computers for Linux going forward? Most/all PC will be sold with Windows 8 installed. Is there a way around for that? I suspect that the UEFI/Secure Boot issue will get sorted out, at least to some degree, with time...

Re: Can't mount my Galaxy S3 in Mint

Supposedly Android device compatibility will be better in Mint 15 as Ubuntu is just releasing better Android support
That should take care of most "I can not mount my <insert phone type here>" posts :-)

Re: Linux and Security?

I've heard a lot about how Linux is much more secure than Windows, but what types of malicious attacks are Windows-only (or at least normally only target Windows), and what types are cross platform and/or target Linux? For example, do Java/Flash vulnerabilities affect Linux? What about drive-by dow...

Re: Gparted - ntfs and extended file system

This is correct. /dev/sdb1 is a container partition. Typically a physical disk is divided in 1 or 2 container partitions that you can not put a file system on. the firs container can hold up to 3 logical partitions each having a file system. The second can contain more logical partitions, I am not s...

Re: Wireless Network Not Accessible Under Mint

This is likely an issue with drivers for the wireless network. There has been a number of wireless nework interfaces without working drivers for Linux due to vendors not providing specs or drivers

Re: Problems with 64 bit vs 32 bit

As you have no problem with MATE but Cinnamon is a no-go I suggest that you do not have proper drivers or more likely that your video card just is not powerful enough for Cinnamon.
Cinnamon requires a whole lot more including hardware acceleration etc.
