Gotta hate parents

I could swear my parents are working against me.

I am trying to build my own computer and I am working to get the money. However, today my mom got me a tablet without me knowing, now I owe her $70 for a tablet I didn't want in the first place. Have you ever have this happen to you?

Re: Need help on UEFI Install

I just tried this on a UEFI computer. It needs a filesystem that will support embedding of iles. For this I used the Reiser filesystem.

Re: Need help on UEFI Install

If you want the /boot partition, reduce the size of the ntfs and ext4 systems to free up 1024 mb of space the move the partitions to the end of the drive. Then create a fat32 partition at the beggining and give it the /boot mount point.

Re: Auto Move Windows to predefined workspace

This is a good idea however, this would be a pain in perriair. If someone wants to open up an appliation in the current virtual desktop (not virtualbox or similars), but it opens in another, can you see the problem brewing here? The person would keep clicking it, not knowing that it is in another de...

Re: Need help on UEFI Install

Restart your computer, and on the UEFI screen, spam every function key until you get the UEFI/BIOS setup screen. At this point, go to the boot menu using the arrow keys, select the boot mode, and select the "Legacy BIOS" option. This will disable the UEFI and make it easier to install Linu...

Re: Budget Laptop Recommendations?

Any laptop made after 2001 would work well with the Lxde and Xfce editions of Linux Mint. 2000 and before is rarely used anymore and has some very archaic hardware that no longer seems to be supported by Linux. If you wantsome cool effects, then you can install GLXDock or Cairodock to support that.

Re: no Superkey in Linux Mint 15

This function is not supported in Lxde. However, if you want superkey support and still have a lightweight desktop, I will suggest Cairodock. It performed well where the others didn't and still looked nice. You can also disable the effects if your hardware does not handle the OpenGL very well.

Families: Debian vs. Slackware vs. Fedora

Hey There, I am trying to figure out the pros and cons of each major Linux Family. I divide the Linux world into three parts: The Debian Family: All the distros based on Debian, directly or indirectly The Slackware Family: All the distros based on Slackware, directly or indirectly The Fedora Family:...

Re: KhiKhu OS Poll [Google Docs]

I filled out the form, and I'm very interested with how it turns out. I will however say that while most people here don't like Macs/Windows very much, not everything that has anything to do with them is inherently bad. An example is that Macs are user friendly and Windows computers have (before Wi...

Re: Used to use Cinnamon, now I am stuck on MATE.

I figured I'd try out Linux mint with MATE desktop, and now I am stuck on it. I love it and will install and use it for the rest of it's existance. So what about it do you enjoy the most? I enjoy the way you can hide the task bay at the bottom. I also enjoy it's speed and smoothness on my computer....

Re: KhiKhu OS Poll [Google Docs]

I have done the questionare. This looks like it could be good, are you forking an existing distro like Ubuntu? Or are you making it from scratch? P.S. I forgot to add this in the comments box, but please don't make it like KDE. What I mean by this is that don't give it lots of features but make it ...

I HATE the new Unity Interface. I will use ANYTHING else, just not Unity. Especially with their new "Search Amazon" feature.

KhiKhu OS Poll [Google Docs]

Hi Minties, As you may know, I am developing my own Linux. I have developed a poll on Google Docs. https://docs.google.com/a/cortezstudents.org/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dEt1QjVlTlNkRGZ2bjNWZElpOW9RSWc6MQ#gid=0 is the poll. I am doing this to figure out what the people need since I'll do with pre...

Re: Linux Minterprise Idea

Not sure how you intend to combine CentOS and Linux Mint, as for example the package management systems are different (RedHat vs. Debian) and so the Mint tools like Software Manager and Update Manager won't work on CentOS without you adapting the source code to work with RedHat instead of Debian. S...

At least guaranteed you will learn something along the way I think. Clem has a tutorial (http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/...
