Re: Drop KDE and Xfce editions of Linux Mint
Yep sounds like the mis-informed here about what makes Linux Mint Great which is choice. Tho now using SolydK KDE which is Debian based is a off-shoot from the wonderful Mint Team & Family. And KDE is NOT Bloated! Mine chimes in to desktop at 302mb with full effects and apps are smooth and snapp...

Re: Brasero won't make a DVD movie..?
Yep more info on type of disc you are trying to copy? burn? An original movie disc is Dual-Layer up to 8.5gb in size. And needs specialized software to compress image down to fit on Single Layer 4.4gb disc. K3b I use after compressing movie disc.and will not deal with copying original movie dvd's. I...

Re: Space needed to Run W7 or other in VirtualBox
Yep one program I use is DVDshrink and run it thru wine. So really comes down to the complexity of the program and if it will run in wine.
But needing Image Editing on high level and needing Lightroom I run Win7 in VM and is taking 13gb at the moment.
WinXP would be smaller me thinks.

Re: Any Disadvantages to Using KDE?
I totally agree with both of you about KDE being the best DE. My only concern is with compatability issues with some programs. Have to be more specific to what programs. I haven't had any program compatibility issues with any programs I've used. But that is the key "Which Programs"? As le...

Re: weather widget wanted
Are you using Cinnamon or Mate? Did you look at the collection of applets & desklets? Here is a weather one that is popular but for tray. http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/17 If you are meaning on the desktop then would look into Conky scripts also Rainlendar is pretty popular an...

Re: information software?
Did a simple google search came up with 2 GUI tools to check hardware information in Linux. http://www.linuxandlife.com/2013/06/GUI-tools-hardware-information.html That may fit your needs. As I remember Belarc also. And second one is is the default system info tool in Linux Mint. It can can gather i...

Re: Drop LMDE or turn it over to a community group!
As mentioned SolydXK but that is only if wanting KDE or Xfce. Now based on quarterly update packs. And is based on testing branch. In over 6 months have had zero issues smooth & stable and is pretty fresh with most apps being 1-3 months behind. And found testing to be a misnomer as my experience...

Re: NOT INSTALLL ATI
That is my card running on dual monitors with default open drivers.
And works fine with open drivers. And no need to try and install proprietary ones.
There are no proprietary ATi drivers and not supported as is a legacy card.

Isn't there or was a project Trinity? that was a stripped down KDE distro?I'm not the only one that dreams of a KDE Lite fork, almost makes me want to learn programming.
The pulled out all the offending stuff to make it lighter.
Have to see how that's going.

I'm sorry you thought I was attacking you which wasn't my intent. Or questioning your experiences. Was trying to understand your misgivings which it appears isn't as much a concern or an issue for me. As the things that concern me I can turn off or not use. As don't use akonadi is disabled in settin...

Re: Had it with KDE, going for a fake Cinnamon LMDE...
Hmmm never had KDE bloat? As always chimed in lighter than Gnome,Unity,Cinnamon on my system. But went with SolydK KDE and chimes in at 300mb to desktop. Ankonadi disabled by default install. Based on Debian Testing where testing branch goes thru another round of testing then to quarterly update pac...
