Putty question

Hi all. I installed Putty, and when I run it from the command line as sudo putty everything is fine, save for the obtrusive terminal window that stays open during the Putty session. I would rather run it from the application shortcut, but that way doesn't run it as sudo, and so my connections fail d...

Re: Google chrome open but not visible

I came here for this exact issue. I am running the latest nvidia drivers (525) and my Chrome is still doing the thing - shows on taskbar, but windows doesn't become visible for almost a full minute. I can resize it, because the pointer changes to the stretch tool when I happen to hover over the edge...

Timeshift? Or something else?

So I got my Mint all installed, customized, updated, and stable, then went into Timeshift and created a 'baseline-stable' snapshot. Timeshift was also configured for 5 daily backups. Timeshift deleted my baseline snapshot! Why?? Perhaps this is not the best utility for what I want to do, which is to...

Desktop Background setting question

You know how there are background images for each of several releases on my Mint installation (Sarah, Sonya, Serena, Sylvia)? And you can select one of those packs to auto-shuffle at your chosen interval? Well, can I have ALL the images from ALL the release packs shuffle through? And if so, how can ...

Re: S to Skip...

I should have provided more details about my system. - /dev/sdb is a second hard drive, installed inside the computer, as you would your optical drive. - /dev/sdc is a removable USB drive, but that drive doesn't seem to be causing the boot stop, because booting up with it being the only non-Linux pa...

S to Skip...

Hey all. So I now have the "S to Skip or M for Manual Recovery" error. I do not, however, get any details as to which partition is causing the error. After doing the process of elimination by editing out each partition one by one in /etc/fstab, I find that it is not the efi partition that'...

Re: Weird "treble-boot" issue

Ehh, never mind. I removed the largely unused Windows T.P. partition, and now just boot Betsy, with occasional W7 for playing Path of Exile.

Weird "treble-boot" issue

Well, I have successfully tri-booted LMDE, Win7 and [Win10 TP | Win 8.1] before, but this time I am having a weird issue with the boot process. After a reboot, when grub2 first arrives at the boot menu, LMDE and Windows 7 are the only choices. So for sake of example, I want to boot into Windows 7, s...

Re: Live USB freezes at various points

Lotsa views, no replies, sigh* No worries, I made another USB installer last night, and until I get a firm answer on this weird Rebecca image problem, I'll be using openSUSE. Strange though, I used the same USB drive, and the same method (dd) to make the openSUSE drive I installed with, so still stu...

gold_finger, this forum really needs a means to "Thumbs Up" people who put this much effort into helping others solve their problems.

Re: Cant open 2nd partition

Are you running a dual-boot configuration with Windows? I only ask because if you are, and you were in Windows, and did not shut down correctly, the ntfs partitions will be visible at the next Linux boot, but will be locked and not mountable. This happens to me all the time if I left my laptop unplu...

Live USB freezes at various points

I had LMDE running fine, dual-booting with Windows 8 (on a Windows 7 laptop). I decided to remove LMDE and install Rebecca Cinnamon in its place. So I downloaded the 64-bit image, and used the image writer from pendrivelinux to create the liveUSB. I went through the partition wiping and reformatting...

...I am not a tester by trade nor a builder. I am the intended audience aka the non hardcore linux user who can hard code in their sleep, one does not have to be a hard coder to be a user of an OS. I disagree with this sentiment, MadmanRB. It is usually the end user, not the "hard coder",...

Re: Catastrophic failure!!!

okay, update with happy ending. I took out the hard drive, and connected it as an external drive to my other laptop, booted a live instance of lmde, and Gparted found the drive (after about twenty minutes). so i created the partitions I wanted in gparted, rebooted with the recovery discs, and am on ...

Re: Catastrophic failure!!!

Thanks for the reply and support! I may have not explained the hard drive partitioning correctly. The Windows "drives" (C: and recovery) were on the "primary" partition, and the others (ext4, ext4, swap, and ntfs "storage") were on the "extended" partition. No...

Catastrophic failure!!!

So I don't really know if this problem fits into any of the major categories, so I will post here. I currently run - err, ran! - a Windows 7 laptop, dual booted with LMDE. The thing has a small Windows recovery partition, a ~250GB ntfs Windows partition, and an extended partition, where lives a ~64G...

Re: Debian 7.0 aka Wheezy Now Stable

Well, looking at http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/ , it says that the new codename for the testing release is 'Jessie". But that does not answer your question, does it. You want to know whether our LMDE is going to be based upon Wheezy, or on Jessie. IMHO, I would assume that, if the sour...
