Re: AirVPN Connectivity Issue on MINT 18.2

Hi, I can confirm that I am NOT able to get download traffic through AirVPN on my test laptop (laptop#1) using LM 18.2 Mate, and also LM 18.2 xfce, and also LinuxLite3.6 This appears to be a problem within Linux Mint18.2. I AM able to get AirVPN working with LM17.3 (laptop#2) I AM able to get AirVPN...

Re: LM 18.2 and DialUp Modem Problems

Hi, If you install the first .deb file via Package Manager, AND you are online with wifi or ethernet-wired-internet, then Package Manager will check that the dependencies are met, and if not met, will prompt you to download and install the required dependencies. Package Manager will do this on-the-f...

Re: LM 18.2 and DialUp Modem Problems

Hi, LM Cinnamon is different to LM Mate. I started the process once, installing all the 5 .deb files into a new installation of LM 18.x Cinnamon. I found many, many dependencies, much more than just the 5 .deb files. My advice is : 1. get online with your target machine with WiFi or wired internet (...

Re: Mint 18 Sara freezes when opening USB Flash drive

Hi, I also found in LM18.1 Mate Edition, when (in an external USB drive), I try to open a folder containing 1000's of small files, Caja reliably hangs. ('Caja not responding'). When I installed LM17.3 Mate onto the same computer, and opened the same external drive and same folder within, there is no...

Re: LM13 and DialUp Modem 'no data traffic' [SOLVED]

Suppose that everything is in order with the connection software. The fact that you did actually dial out with your modem, suggests that something is working. ...maybe the problem is something else. Possible that it's a quirk of the US Robotics modem. Have a look here. (link below) May have to play ...

Re: LM13 and DialUp Modem 'no data traffic' [SOLVED]

Hi, I cant diagnose what problem you have from what you posted. Check obvious things. 1. in Terminal, type dmesg Look for the converter cable description near the bottom of the result. It should read something obvious, like : USB 2.0 to COM Device Prolific Technology Inc. pl2303 converter detected r...

Re: LM13 and DialUp Modem 'no data traffic' [SOLVED]

Hi Renee, My LM15 Mate Dialup Instructions (above) are also suitable for LM18 Mate. The Pluma text editor in LM15 has been replaced wih Xed. You need to modify instructions to account for this. LM18-xfce seems to require that you install even more .deb files - there are more dependencies. I haven't ...

Re: Dial up installation...

Hi Steve, With LM17, you will need 5x .deb applications, not just Gnome-PPP for dialup. Get these .deb apps from http://pkgs.org/# Go to this thread (below) and download and follow the last-posted instruction set. The last post there, also lists the .deb apps you will need. You will (generally) only...

Re: New to Mint and dialup question

Use the LM15.etc etc... .pdf version of instructions in that thread. (Look further down in that thread.) For LM 17.2 Mate you will need to get the 5 .deb files online, or from a previous version of LM1x DVD Edition.iso I expect the same .deb file omission for LM17.2 Cinnamon - though I haven't tried...

Hi bikrgran, If the USB modem is an external USB-ACM modem, then you should be okay. Go here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=157&t=115291&p=902450&hilit=dialup#p758593 and download and follow the instructions for LM15 DVD Mate version. The LM15 instructions will work for LM17...

Hi Jacatone, Download and follow the LM15 dialup instructions here. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=157&t=115291&p=902450&hilit=dialup#p758593 They also work for LM17.1 Mate edition. I have done this myself on LM17.1, following my own instructions. Be aware that the instructi...

Re: Dialup connection in LM 17 Cinnamon

Hi, I think you've gone as far as anyone can go with making a driver for a Conexant chip modem. I'm not sure that it can be done with a linux kernel vers. above ~2.6 for the reasons you have encountered. (I think I read somewhere that Conexant did not release instructions for their chip at the time,...

Re: Dialup connection in LM 17 Cinnamon

Hi Jacatone, For AMD versions of LinuxMint17, you would need 5x_files_amd.deb, not 5x_files_i386.deb. These can be downloaded from http://www.pkgs.org. (Corrected Feb 2015. Should read http://pkgs.org/ ) (On that website) search for file name in the search field. After the site has searched catalog/...

Re: Dialup connection in LM 17 Cinnamon

Hi Jacatone, What exactly makes a PCI modem Linux compatible? Perhaps *every* PCI modem is Linux compatible (provided you have a linux modem driver installed for your flavor of Linux, to see and talk to the modem). And *that* has been the problem so far. PCi modems are usually based on Lucent/Agere ...

Re: Dialup connection in LM 17 Cinnamon

Hi, This can only be done if you are using an external hardware modem; either an old-school dialup with RS232/COM connexn, or a USB ACM dialup external modem. If you have a soft-modem / win-modem then you wont have much luck. If you have an external dialup modem as described, then you can follow my ...

Re: Creating a dial-up connection with Linux Mint 13

Hi Blazer, Perhaps use scanModem. Look here and follow the links to download: http://132.68.73.235/linmodems/first.html I think the instructions written there to install and run the app, are a bit ..clunky? I haven't done this for a while, but perhaps, place the compressed .gz file on your desktop. ...
