Re: Linux Mint 20 success or issues

I didn't see anything about nVidia drivers not working in Mint 20. https://linuxmint.com/rel_ulyana_cinnamon.php "If your graphics card is from NVIDIA..." You misunderstand. The system installs, boots and loads Cinnamon just fine. No matter the driver installed or how it was installed the system st...

Re: Linux Mint 20 success or issues

Not had any issues like this with any Mint release and I've used daily since Mint 12. Back to 19.3 until 20 can be sorted. It helps to thoroughly read the release notes before doing anything with a new release. Going "Back to 19.3 until 20 can be sorted" won't fix anything if you try the installati...

Re: Linux Mint 20 success or issues

Fresh install on ESXi 7 virtual machine with PCI pass-through of GTX650 graphics card (Mint 20 Cinnamon). Install went fine. Initially I set it up without the nVidia GPU and successfully set up LTSP on it for PXE boot from client computers. All was working until the GPU was added and more specifical...

Re: Qualcomm QCA6174 Dropping connection.

Firmware was first released in 2013 and last updated in 2018. Required kernel is 4.0 https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/ath10k/firmware Maybe someone else here has a suggestion on how to get more performance out of this adapter. I do know this wireless adapter sucked under Winwoes and...

Re: Qualcomm QCA6174 Dropping connection.

Either the wifi or touchpad on my device did not work on 4x kernel. Honestly don't remember which it was. You can give it a try though. Won't hurt anything.

Re: Qualcomm QCA6174 Dropping connection.

I have the same wireless controller on a new Lenovo 14w (Mint 19.3 Cinnamon). Using the current 5.4.0-39 kernel is the best it has ever performed but that's not saying much. It's just a bad controller or has bad drivers. No longer drops connection for me but still has a very slow connection. Tried t...

Re: Changed to Mate, new users can't login

At the login screen next to the users name is an icon. Click the icon and select Mate Session instead of Cinnamon. Should be able to login then.

Re: Triple Monitor Setup

I run three 24" HP monitors (1080p) on my work PC (Mint 19.3 Cinnamon) without issue. I set them up as you would expect for position and orientation. As long as your GPU supports three simultaneous displays then it should not be an issue. Used to run two 24" Samsung monitors on my home PC, also on M...

Re: Hard drive not working

Verify power and data connections to the drive, but it sounds like the drive has died (hardware failure) if system freeze and now not showing in BIOS.

Re: mint 19.3 Mate slow boot_older laptop

That computer should not be running kernel 5. Suggest falling back to the current supported 4.15.0-106 kernel and remove all others. System runs fine but takes more than awhile to boot. Are you using disk encryption? This would definitely add to boot time on a system that old.

Re: Autoremove unused packages

The way the command is worded and executed is completely different from autoremove. Not completely sure on the reason but here is the command breakdown. https://explainshell.com/explain?cmd=dpkg+-l+%7C+grep+%27%5Erc%27+%7C+awk+%27%7Bprint+%242%7D%27+%7C+sudo+xargs+dpkg+--purge Now, I ran autoremove ...

Re: New system, reusing old install?

In theory it should work fine. EFI is separate partition so it will not be touched. Just as easily I think is to install new with new EFI partition and / partition. Use the existing /home partition where all your user settings and preferences are stored, just don't format on install. You would have ...

Re: New system, reusing old install?

So long as you booting the system the same, BIOS or UEFI, then just pop the drive in the new computer and boot. Done it several times with no issues. Hardware will be recognized at boot. After that just use driver manager for any needed proprietary CPU/GPU/NIC drivers.

Re: Autoremove unused packages

Shouldn't you be using update manager to remove the installed kernels? autoremove is used to remove packages that were automatically installed to satisfy dependencies for other packages and are now no longer needed | sudo apt autoremove | is quick, clean and efficient. No need to use UM unless look...
