same old bug

I am setting up a multi-boot computer, booting three or four linux distributions. The second system I was going to install was Mint 6.0 XFCE. And right there at the beginning of the installation, I see it, the same old issue: The system clock is 4 hours off. I don't see this in other distributions. ...

Re: gui goes standby during boot

Happy to report that I burned Mint XFCE-CE Felicia to CD-R and everything went well. Now typing this post via live CD!

At the risk of seeming old fashioned, I would like to use Cassandra Green as background. How would I obtain this for an installation of Mint XFCE-CE Felicia?

gui goes standby during boot

One of the reasons I havent been active lately is that Linux Mint has a gui issue with my main working computer, a Northgate STAX2517C2 with onboard nVidia graphics. This is a general issue, not specific to XFCE. I recently downloaded Mint 6 main (gnome) and not only did the gui go dead (out of rang...

Firefox Stop button is green!

I am impressed with Mint Elyssa liveCD, and have only one trivial suggestion, that the Stop button in Firefox browser be colored red, not green. It shocked me when I first used the Stop button: it was green for GO. Green is nice, but breaking universal conventions, like stop and go colors, doesn't m...

Re: Nice short review

Have another look, kanishka. Beranger decided to mention Mint XFCE under "Other choices" in a re-update of his article: http://beranger.org/index.php?page=diary&2008/02/19/12/07/29-choosing-an-xfce-based-distro Linux Mint XFCE Community Edition: Elegant and (over-)sophisticated, the Ubuntu-based Min...

feelin' left out, kanishka http://beranger.org/index.php?page=diary&2008/02/19/12/07/29-choosing-an-xfce-based-distro minty - Yesterday at 19:20:33 GMT While Linux Mint XFCE Daryna CE (4.0) is experiencing birthing pains right now, Mint XFCE Cassandra CE (3.0) is a fabulous XFCE community edition. Panel color should be gray

I'm getting a early start on this issue. I think the Panel color should be gray. The dark green/black color assumes a dark background, which I probably will never choose. It's one thing to have a dark Panel that's easy on the eyes, but it's quite another when Panel is so dark as to be illegible. Mor...

must boot twice for proper display

In order to get proper resolution, I must reboot after the first time I get to Desktop. The first boot to Desktop isn't completely smooth: The monitor blinks, and it goes into standby at the time the Login dialog comes up. I must bring the computer out of video standby by pressing Enter or Shift, an...

Re: pleasing forum colors

I realize now that the color scheme I favored was rendered by Internet Explorer 6. I'm viewing the forum in Mozilla Firefox on the same laptop, and there is very little blue here. The light blue I saw in IE6 comprised maybe 10% of total color content. Basically, light blue was the backdrop of the Mi...

Re: New Forums

December 5, 2007-1200 UTC: My compliments on the current choice of forum colors: gray green / light blue / white. This color combo looks more professional and is easier on the eyes. The former yellowish green seemed swampy and military.

EDIT: Looks like old is back.

Re: pleasing forum colors

Actually, I'm a bit confused. The color combo I was complimenting isn't showing at present. I was viewing the Forum in Internet Explorer on my laptop and noticed the nice color combo, but I changed computers and now it's the former yellowish green. I see no light blue at present. So I dunno what's g...

Re: CBC audio stream not playing

Thanks Nick, I got the CBC audio stream to play in Totem by copying and pasting the streaming URL that you pointed out. Still seems a bit roundabout to get an audio stream to play. Worked out of the box with Cassandra. I dont mess with MPlayer if I can avoid it, rarely get it configured right before...

Re: CBC audio stream not playing

This blog indicates there is a bug in Ubuntu Gutsy: http://smurfmatic.net/blog/archives/2007/07/26/asx-streams-not-always-working-on-ubuntu.html I sat out Mint Bianca because of a buggy movie player, sync bugs to be specific. We had to wait for Ubuntu to upgrade libxine upstream. (Debian still has n...

CBC audio stream not playing

I have performed a standard install of Mint Daryna, and I expect standard things to work, but the audio stream at CBC Radio is not working. I dont know what is missing, but I went through Synaptic and added just a few things. CBC Radio (low bandwidth Montreal stream) still wont play. It tries to pla...

Re: Firefox tabbed browsing issue

Would anyone care to speculate whether reinstalling Mint Daryna would clear up Firefox. I would appreciate any advice. EDIT: After wiping the hard drive, I reinstalled Mint Daryna, with good results as far as Firefox is concerned. The instances of Firefox appear on the panel, not as tabs under the t...

I just carefully installed Daryna (clean install after wiping hdd), and here is /etc/default/rcS: # /etc/default/rcS # # Default settings for the scripts in /etc/rcS.d/ # # For information about these variables see the rcS(5) manual page. # # This file belongs to the "initscripts" package. Re: Firefox tabbed browsing issue

This observation is further proof that something is amiss: When I reduce a window, it disappears forever, as if it had been quit. Not actually the same as if quit, because the page reduces to a point at the end of the panel. After being reduced from visibility, there is no way to retrieve it, and wh...

Re: Daryna nVidia driver issue

The nVidia driver 71.86.01 is actually available through Mint's Envy, under manual installation of nVidia drivers. Driver 71.86.01 is one of three available drivers. This issue has been resolved by changing out the card, three times (3 different cards, one finally worked).
