Search multiple folders simultaneously, non-full text?

I'm running Mint 18.1 Mate 64-bit. I've been trying to find a graphical program (not command line) that will index filenames only ( not full-text!) and that will search multiple folders not under a single umbrella folder. I have multiple folders I want to search simultaneously, some under /home in v...

Custom word lists with text analysis

I've been pondering the best way to do something for a while and it occurred to me that eliciting the input of those of you on here might be a good idea. (And if this is in the wrong place, mods, I apologize in advance - I struggled to figure out where I should post this and finally decided this was...

Re: Vino-server and ssvnc through router?

Last weekend I figured it out and got it working! So for anyone else who'd like to set up a secure VNC with SSH tunneling (because if you run vino-server on recent versions of Mint, the encryption isn't compatible with any viewer, or something like that), here's the steps I went through: 1) Pick a p...

Re: Vino-server and ssvnc through router?

Sorry for the delayed response - been dealing with insane schedules and illness. Thanks for trying to help with what you could. It did help me along the way, and while vino-server's not secure in and of itself, I think I can set up port forwards for ssh properly such that it'll only take SSH tunneli...

Re: Vino-server and ssvnc through router?

Hmm, this shows all the SSVNC options I could find: https://imgur.com/a/XEhJLLl The top pic shows both the main window (where you enter port/path stuff) and the standard Options dialog. The latter has a button for advanced options, which is the second pic. I do know it used SSH to get into the compu...

Re: Vino-server and ssvnc through router?

Unfortunately I get the following: ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host No idea what to do with this... I know vino-server's running just fine on both of the remote computers, and it worked beautifully with the previous setup, but something's having a fit with the way I have...

*crosses fingers* I'll know in like two or three hours, then. Will report results when I get home.

Re: Vino-server and ssvnc through router?

Yeah, the two computers have fixed IPs on the LAN, and identifying the router's WAN IP is a piece of cake. Port forwards are set up - but I'm still not sure exactly what to type in the SSVNC boxes to get it to go through. I assume VNC Host:Display would be InternalIP:InternalPort, right? And VNC Pas...

Vino-server and ssvnc through router? [SOLVED]

I'm currently running Mint 18.1 Mate 64-bit on this desktop. The previous 'net setup at my house involved a dedicated computer that acted as firewall/webserver/FTP host/etc. in between the 'net and our computers. We are now transitioning to a more standard setup with a router, and I'm absolutely stu...

Re: Replacement RSS Reader for RSSOwl?

Well, Liferea does apparently have something called Search Folders, so maybe that's the choice - on the other hand, it doesn't really matter, as my RSSOwl db finally got too corrupted to start up. Now I'm wishing I'd done this awhile back and turned off the updating on RSSOwl, so maybe I could've go...

Re: Replacement RSS Reader for RSSOwl?

I tried both Akregator and QuiteRSS - neither had the saved search capability. From what I can see (without actually trying it) it doesn't appear that Liferea does either. But I'm about to test it, so we'll see. I was just wondering if anyone knew off the top of their head what they thought I should...

Replacement RSS Reader for RSSOwl?

So I'm running Mint 18.1 Mate 64-bit (haven't gotten around to upgrading to 18.2 yet). I've been using RSSOwl for years - on Windows and then on Mint when I switched five years ago. I still love using it, but mine's buggy as all get-out (randomly crashing a lot now when it didn't use to), and I'd li...

I get four boxes with 00 in them, and underneath them is S/PDIF, S/PDIF 1, S/PDIF 2, and S/PDIF 3. Nothing else. The other card has Master, Headphone, Speaker, etc.

Re: HDMI audio not working

grep eld_valid /proc/asound/NVidia/eld* You need to have all the gear plugged in and turned on when you issue that command. Did you do that or not? Yes, the TV is plugged in and currently displaying the computer's wallpaper and I'm still getting all 0s for that command. Also, install pavucontrol an...

HDMI audio not working

On the problem computer I'm running Mint 13 Mate 64-bit (I know it's outdated, but I have to use it on this one computer for specific reasons, it's a long story - rest assured I'm completely up-to-date on my main box). This computer's normal monitor and audio connection is done through a KVM switch ...

Re: Issues with Firefox downloading and sessions

Is it safe to assume you can still start Firefox with your affected profile? Does it still have your bookmarks there and can you still view your installed extensions? If so, then just backup the bookmarks and copy the list of extensions. To do this: Click on the "Show your bookmarks" icon and selec...

Issues with Firefox downloading and sessions

I'm running Mint 18.1 Mate 64-bit, and my Firefox is having major fits recently. I'm currently running Firefox version 53.0.3 - had been holding off on upgrading to 54 because I wanted to double-check if my extensions were still compatible (I know they're phasing out the way extensions work so a lot...

Re: Konversation taskbar icon & behavior issues

I had Konversation crash one too many times (not often, but every few days), so I ran it from the terminal this time, and I've been able to link a specific error output there with every time it appears in the wrong workspace: Connection broken with state 4 and error: "Unknown error" Every six second...

Re: Xorg using 100% of one CPU

And I wondered why it was slow tonight? Presto, now it's back to the same 100% of CPU being sucked up by that Xorg process. That was only a week! I am getting very annoyed that this system is forcing me to restart (or at the very close, close all the programs, kill the process, and restart them) on ...
