Re: No sound with firefox_50.0~linuxmint1+betsy_amd64.deb ?

Thanks all, it's working again now. I did have libavcodec-extra-56 installed, plus libavcodec57 from jessie-backports. Some of you may have noticed that I removed most of the dmo packages from my machine yesterday (22nd), but I think I lost sound in Firefox two days ago (21st), so I don't think this...

No sound with firefox_50.0~linuxmint1+betsy_amd64.deb ?

Having upgraded to firefox_50.0~linuxmint1+betsy_amd64.deb I lost sound in Firefox.
I've downgraded to firefox_49.0.2~linuxmint1+betsy_amd64.deb and sound is now back.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Re: How to remove deb-multimedia.org (dmo) repo from LMDE 2

Interesting topic, thanks all. I just replaced most of the dmo packages with the standard versions from jessie / jessie-backports and the vlc repo (the latter in the case of one just package that no one apparently talks about). I just have the following dmo packages left: * flashplayer-mozilla * gst...

Re: cinnamon dreaded sofware rendering!!

Also, you could refer to the quarterly Intel Graphics Stack Release docs listed under https://01.org/search/node/broadwell. These may help you decide which packages you will need to upgrade.

Re: cinnamon dreaded sofware rendering!!

I've managed to get hardware acceleration working in Cinnamon on an i5-6200u, so it should be possible to get it working on the older i5-5200u. You will need to install some newer packages from jessie-backports (generally safe, simple and easy to revert), and testing (more complicated). I'm not sure...

Just in case I scared anyone else, I've been running xorg from testing for a couple of months now, and I've had no problems whatsoever.

Incidentally, this may also have fixed an issue I had with Libreoffice menus being corrupted.

(Fix) Font rendering issue on Radeon hardware

This is a bug that annoyed me for over a year - font glyphs would occasionally be corrupted, often whilst browsing with Firefox. The upstream bug report is here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85864 This bug affects some users with AMD Radeon graphics, possibly other makes too. The sol...

Re: when lmde 2 (betsy) will be available?

That's a somewhat risky way. I like living on the edge. Don't try this at home kids, this method could fry your computer, eat your files, or cause a plague of locusts! This is why I didn't post instructions. If you do try it, make sure you do it on someone else's computer! Actually, it wouldn't sur...

Betsy/Jessie hybrid

Install Debian Jessie, then you have MATE 1.8.1 or Cinnamon 2.2  https://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ If you want you can later always add the Mint LMDE repo for some Mint tools I installed Jessie Beta 2 server (tasksel OpenSSH, no desktop) in a virtual machine and added the Betsy r...

Re: when lmde 2 (betsy) will be available?

apt-get autoremove acts stupid no matter what init system is installed. According to manpages "autoremove is used to remove packages that were automatically installed to satisfy dependencies for other packages and are now no longer needed." But you have to check very carefully because thi...

Re: when lmde 2 (betsy) will be available?

It would be futile to decide not to use systemd long term if no efforts existed (either from us or from upstream) to develop and maintain proper alternatives... and I don't mean just the init system here, but the whole range of services systemd might obsolete (upower, consolekit..etc). .. Next cycl...

Re: when lmde 2 (betsy) will be available?

.. - Systemd ... that's at the heart of one of the big decisions for Betsy. We've been talking a lot with the fork-debian guys. Prior to this we had a few exchanges with maintainers of other distributions and with Lennart P, in particular about that runtime directory collision bug which got us real...

Re: Why not provide a version with all the desktop environme

It would be nice to have the option of which desktop to use at install time, and it'd also be great to be able to choose no desktop at all! I'm sure it would be relatively easy to offer Cinnamon, Mate and XFCE on one ISO, but I've noticed that historically the XFCE version is released after the Cinn...

Re: Bugs on Launchpad

I got the impression that a lot of the Github issues don't get seen by the developers either. I'm sure the developers would appreciate some able volunteers to triage and confirm some of the bugs though. I don't know how many developers there are, but I don't think it's many - it's amazing what they ...

Good evening!Well i followed all of the your suggestions below gweaver ( think you for them by the way!)... Oh and do you know what in the world Mint-meta cinnamon is? Re: Upstream Gnome removing menu bars from applications

I like that! The cog is better than looking at Windows 96 type menu bars. The first thing I do with Firefox is to get the menu bar out of sight. Many of you do that too, I believe, so why not the cog? :) . I agree that it looks nicer, but if it takes me longer to find the function (if it still exis...

Re: Upstream Gnome removing menu bars from applications

Thanks for taking the time to reply Vincent, I know the Mint developers must be pretty busy right now. For me this feels like the removal of the minimise and maximise buttons all over again. Some people will like it, some won't. In that case gnome-tweak-tool came to the rescue, allowing users to res...
