Re: Unable to install Brother HL-L2380DW printer/scanner

I tried doing a "Network Reset" on my printer (which involved, among other things, a reboot). When it finished, the printer had a new IP address with the BOOT method set to auto, it showed up on my router's list of connected devices (it apparently didn't before), and configuring it via the...

Re: Unable to install Brother HL-L2380DW printer/scanner

It does work normally if I connect it via USB. But I should be able to use it over my LAN, just like I used to.

Re: Unable to install Brother HL-L2380DW printer/scanner

Why would an IP address from my router be for my printer? Why would I use an IP other than the one my printer gives me to address it? I thought every device on a LAN had its own unique IP address. EDIT: In my printer's TCP/IP settings, I see the boot method is currently set to static (i.e. a static,...

I'm not sure; there's nothing answering to that name in my router status. Do any of these look like it? Re: Unable to install Brother HL-L2380DW printer/scanner

I have TDM service through US Internet; my modem is on the outside of my house and requires a ladder to physically access; I highly doubt I can just log into it like I could with a modem I own and control. I would need to call customer service and have them do whatever needs doing on it, so I'd need...

Re: Unable to install Brother HL-L2380DW printer/scanner

I'm confused--how can my ISP affect my ability to communicate on my internal home LAN? How can my printer give me the "wrong" IP address? All I know is mine changed. It had been the same for several years. Can you check the report you printed against what your modem says its DHCP IP addre...

Re: Unable to install Brother HL-L2380DW printer/scanner

Do you have your firewall active? If so, temporarily turn it off to see if you can print/scan. No, my firewall was already turned off. I just had a similar issue. Centurylink or my modem changed my ip address with no warning. The one that changed was in the modem settings under DHCP as the pic atta...

[SOLVED] Unable to install Brother HL-L2380DW printer/scanner

I've had a Brother HL-L2380DW printer/scanner for several years now. Lately I seem to be completely unable to get it to work over the network. I'm downloading the driver installation script from Brother here , and running it like so: $ sudo bash linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.2-1 Input model name ->H...

Re: After installing updates, wifi is extremely slow and cuts in and out

I bought it new less than a year ago. You can see detailed model information in the inxi output above.

After the updates I'm also being prompted to update to Mint 20. Would this be likely to help or exacerbate my wifi problem?

Re: After installing updates, wifi is extremely slow and cuts in and out

I did try restarting my computer, but not my router. (Since I got normal wifi speeds when booted to Windows, I thought I could rule out the router) Booting with the 5.3.0.61 kernel does appear to resolve the slow speeds. What does this mean?

Re: After installing updates, wifi is extremely slow and cuts in and out

I do see that the kernel appears to have been updated from 5.3.0.61.114 to 5.4.0.42.46~18.04.35; I see linux-headers-generic-hwe-18.04, linux-image-generic-hwe-18.04, and linux-generic-hwe-18.04 were updated between those versions. $ uname -a Linux BABBAGE 5.4.0-42-generic #46~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri...

After installing updates, wifi is extremely slow and cuts in and out

I installed a round of recommended updates for my Linux Mint 19.3 distribution last night. After shutting down for the night and restarting, I am noticing my wifi is suddenly much slower and less reliable. I am able to connect to my regular and 5Ghz networks normally, but web pages take many times l...

Using a USB HOTAS with Mint?

I am wondering if it's possible to use a USB throttle and/or stick (Thrustmaster T16000M) with Mint 19.3. lsusb shows that it does seem to be detected on some level: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 005: ID 8087:0029 Intel Corp. Your second suggestion worked! Thanks so much! Could you explain why that driver was needed?
