Re: Problem when resizing root

Karakuramonkey, I think those steps are not all completely necessary especially installing grub etc.. It sounds like this person made the partition larger simply by booting off the disk and repartitioning but that was not the correct way to do this process. If the steps I provided are followed it wi...

Re: Wired Internet Connection is spotty

Hi Indigo, There are so many variables that could cause Internet issues. Let's start with some basic information. 1. Network card installed on your Linux computer. Also driver you are using. 2. What your local network looks like i.e. router you are using, switches if any. Is this your home network o...

Re: Software manager - location of software

I am glad you got you question answered. I just want to expand on it some more. Software in Linux is kept in different locations depending on the software. You can always use "find" or "grep" commands to search for specific keywords. Since you question was answered by fornhamfred...

Re: Problem when resizing root

What you are trying to do is "dangerous" and can cause data loss. However it is possible, this is the main reason I tell everyone to use LVM when building their Linux machine. You did miss quiet a few steps here and I will list them below. This is for non-LVM partitions.

Re: How to edit the list of languages on the login screen

HI Astro, Interesting question, I don't do this so often but my main language is English and I like to switch to German sometimes as it is helpful since A. I live in a German speaking country B. It helps me answer questions for friends who run in German. I searched on Google but did not find anythin...

Re: FireFox shortcuts Linux vs FF shortcuts Windows

Hi Robisbe, I found this which I thought you would find helpful as a description in general of Windows shortcuts compared with Linux. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_of_keyboard_shortcuts I did not specifically look for your shortcut listed, nor did I check to see how up to date this wikipedia pa...

Re: Samsung Galaxy Devices and Linux Mint

Thanks everyone for your responses. I have not checked the post in a while, I actually though no one was interested. What I found was Airdroid. This has been the best solution for me so far, transferring large files such as a movie takes longer than being connected. It does not really sync but it al...

Re: Wireless connects, no internet

Hi folks! I've run into a stinker of a problem (for me at least). I'm using an Acer TravelMate 2423WXMi and just upgraded to LM14 (with Cinnamon) but can no longer update, look at websites, search, download package updates etc. but I'm seeing that my wireless has connected. It's not a router issue ...

Re: WiFi stops working after a certain time period

No ideas yet. It seems as though you are transmitting and receiving but just not authenticating.... What is the security setting on the router? WPA2 personal AES/TKIP if so try WPA2 just AES or WPA TKIP. See if this makes a difference. I am confident this is an authentication problem and your card i...

Re: wifi not working

I'll throw in my two cents here and try to help. I was reading another post on the same kind of problem. User keeps getting prompted for wifi password and disconnects. You also mentioned you were running Windows previously. Did yo see if your router was set to use WPS? This is probably on by default...

Re: WiFi stops working after a certain time period

I'll try to help with this one with out thinking on it too much. It seems I had this problem a while back. I was using a Netgear router and WPS was enabled. This proved no problem for Windows but I think it was for the mac's and linux machines in the house. So if you have one of those routers with t...

Re: Samsung Galaxy Devices and Linux Mint

It sure is a real bummer. I really like my Galaxy S3 and the Note 10.1 Tab. With that said, Samsung has been a real pain to live with. I have the Galaxy S Tab 10.1 wifi and I waited more than a year for 4.0. I was never a big HTC fan but I like the new phones they are putting out. I really like the ...

Re: Samsung Galaxy Devices and Linux Mint

cw, thanks again. Transferring files doesn't seem to be an issue now since I found this weird way of connecting the devices (which I believe is not what Samsung intended). What I really want to do is sync PIM data or just have a program that is like kies on mac or windows. My wife uses kies on mac a...

Re: Samsung Galaxy Devices and Linux Mint

viking, now here is something even more strange. When I had the S3 connected as a camera there was a camera icon on my desktop and I was able to import my photos to gthumb. then I unmounted the device and while it was still connected to the computer I switched it back to mtp and the icon changed to ...

Re: Samsung Galaxy Devices and Linux Mint

viking, so I just tried it with USB debugging. This was on my S3. I got a funny (and I mean haha funny) message. Attention: Unable to find software on your device. Service pack 3 Windows Media Player version 10 or higher, for Windows XP or Android File Transfer for Mac OS must be installed. and then...
