Re: Nerdy types dismissing Linux Mint.

I really dont care what other people have to say about Mint. I do very well making my own mind up and making my own decisions. As far as Iam concerned Linux Mint is the defacto version of linux that anyone starting out should be using. Its too bad that LM doesnt have a server version. I envision tha...

Re: My If statement in a function?

Hey, Thank you.

I will sit down and digest this in a little bit. Just rolled out of bed.

I have done bash before but its been a long time. Now that I have a server running (ml350e) that I need to incorporate some complex commands into a simple script :)

Thank you again!

Re: My If statement in a function?

Yes, That was an example of the problem I was having with my if/then statements. I have a rather large script for administering a User Database on a backup system. Its getting quite long. Basically it makes it easy for an employee to work with customers and assign them a qouta for storage and set th...

Re: My If statement in a function?

Believe it or not, I think this is Murphy's Law --> You look for ever to find an answer and then decide to post about it. Then right after that you find the answer. At the end of the whole if statement I was missing "fi". So, It should look like this: function test { read -p ' Testing your typing ' ...

Re: Persistent manual DNS

Im not sure from your post what your problem actually is. Could you be a bit more specific? Are you trying to manually use different DNS servers than what your ISP has? If thats the case, Set them in Network Manager. What desktop are you using? Bit more info would be helpful and then I can help you....

Re: Firefox Issues With Youtube

Another idea to try: Open your file manager. Im using the Mate Desktop by the way - Show all hidden files. tar up your .mozilla directory and give it a name like - > mozilla-backup.tar Then delete your .mozilla directory and start firefox. See if You Tube still has issues. If it does then you can re...

Re: Who no longer trusts or uses Facebook?

I have always been a believer that the free market takes care of its own problems. Possibly, but it seems unlikely that we will ever know that for sure. On this planet, markets are controlled by those who have too much already, and solely for their own benefit. IMO, I think that the reason there is...

Re: Who no longer trusts or uses Facebook?

I tried an account when they first started. After seeing how they treat personal information in their rules I looked at deleting my account. I could not find a way so I just abandoned it. I do not use any social sites like others have posted. I do not understand the witch hunt on Old Zuck because in...

Re: Because of the Facebook data scandal, should Linux Mint delete its Facebook page?

I dont use any of the social stuff online. However, Here is my opinion on the subject: When you join FB and other sites they do have a terms of service. Nobody reads it just like installing that MS software. So, They basically give away your rights when you hop on sites like FB. Its not really FB's ...

Disk2VHD is what you need. I've used it with XP and Win 7... I've no access to Win 10. There's plenty of info online about using it... Here's one that's Win 10 specific, though I've only used the .vhds on Virtualbox. Hi Chris, I have seen references to that. I will have to look into it. I appreciat...

I don't care to have a Surface or anything else from Microsoft. I honestly do not know why anybody would use any of their junk if there's any way to avoid it.

It amazes me too. Sometimes I think this world is getting dumber as we get older. ;)

Does anyone here make that backing-up beeping noise while archiving their files, or am I the only one?
lol,

How about a bash script that runs rsync for backups and plays the backup warning?
