Re: Firefox 57...Quantum

Coffee412 Popped in a work clone copy of what I am using and got the about:config to work properly. Why it would not work yesterday is beyond me, but it sure wasted a bunch of my time. Not that it is valuable, as I am retired. Thanks for prodding me along on this. Bill Thats great :) I dont know ab...

Re: Firefox 57...Quantum

57 is having none of it. Tried that. When that failed, I decided there was no need for 57 here. When they update something to block the instant talking heads on the news sites, I will try it again. I think Mozilla is making a mistake by giving the users less choices. Before you throw in the towel o...

Re: Firefox 57...Quantum

Ok, So I took the little plunge here and upgraded to the version 57. Ive kinda walked thru it a bit and nothing glaring sticks out. Seems to run faster and no issues really. However, I do not run a lot of plugins. I run ublock origin, 1-click youtube video downloader. Pretty much everything looks th...

Re: I need to roll back Firefox now.

@WarfRat - You beat me :) If this helps: I saw a thread on this subject and if you look in your apt cache directory you might find the previous version deb files still there. I think there are two of them. /var/cache/apt/archives See if there there and uninstall FF and then reinstall from the /var/c...

Re: Firefox 57...Quantum

Re: what mail client do you prefer

I dont want google, yahoo or any of those others handling my email. I have it all on a private email server. I pull it all with thunderbird. I have some dummy gmail accounts for sites that demand an email address. I just give them my junk ones.

Re: what mail client do you prefer

Ive been using Thunderbird for years now. It pretty much does everything that I want it too. I also like the idea that you can just backup your .thunderbird directory and restore/reinstall if need be. I know there are others out there. Long time ago I used to use Evolution but there was never a foru...

Re: USB Speaker issue

PulseAudio is your main sound system in Mint. If you changed your settings in there you will have to go back in and undo what you did. Select your sound device or check your outputs to make sure they are correct. Perhaps you mucked up the PA and it needs to be stopped and restarted? To see if its st...

I do believe that it will upgrade for everyone. So, all new accounts will have the FF57

Re: 18.2 installer crashing

I know that Kodi would segfault on me when installing and it was because Iam using a RX480 video card and the AMD driver. I switched to the kernel driver and that fixed everything.

Try using DD to write to the stick:

dd if=some.iso of=/dev/yourstick bs=2048

Re: Can I install a printer I haven't got?

What you should do is after the laptop is delivered and the printer is hooked up to it have them load up something like Teamviewer (free for personal use license) and you can remote in and run the install. Shouldnt be difficult at all. In fact, Install teamviewer on the laptop before you ship it and...

Re: 18.2 installer crashing

I have the same board. :) And running 18.1

Have you tried a different usb port. On the back they have 3.1/3.0/2.0 ports.

Also, Have you upgraded your bios?

UPDATE: Re read your post.

What program are you using? Just open a term window and DD the iso to the stick. That should work fine.

Re: Firefox 57 - Quantum

My take from this is that Mozilla noticed that they were losing market share to chrome. So, They have totally revamped FF. They also decided to work on the plugins because alot of them are unsecure or whatever. M$ on the other hand goes off on a wild hair and totally screws up their DE and lie to ev...

I get this when I click on the twitter button:

Firefox 56 on Mint Mate 64

EDIT: I was going to post a screen shot but cannot get it to work. I am getting two boxes. One on top of the other in the middle of the page. If I can figure out how to post it I will.

Re: [ANSWERED] RX-480 Support and Systemd

Im not really into boot order as it does not affect me with Mint. From your posts I get the feeling that you are looking to alter the boot order of services in Mint with systemd. I did find this if its at all helpful. https://serverfault.com/questions/482730/systemd-dependencies-and-boot-order Hope ...

Re: RX-480 Support and Systemd

Im running a RX480 with the kernel driver. I tried the AMD driver but some feature(s) where not in it that prevented me from installing kodi. Kept getting a seg fault or something. As for screen tearing, I dont experience any of that. All my videos play quite well and my desktop also.
