Re: What can Mint do about the flawed security model that Linux uses?
I havent read the article yet. Dont know if I really will. I haven't read it either so I won't comment. Not much sense in uninformed hot takes, is there. Ouch. :( Every time I hear about some bug or what ever about linux its fixed rather quickly or already has. So, I dont even read the articles any...

Re: What can Mint do about the flawed security model that Linux uses?
I havent read the article yet. Dont know if I really will. The normal run of events seems to be that a hole is discovered in linux. Then a patch is made and updates applied. Then the article comes out. I adhere to that in most cases. Of course, Running windows and worrying about malware is like worr...

Re: Which distro do you use as a daily driver?
Im using this operating system called linux. I dont know if anyone here has heard of it. Especially Linux Mint with the Mate desktop.
For my servers I use Debian Buster. Im afraid I am falling in love with debian. But do not worry, Linux Mint will always be my first and only real love.

Great to hear its working again.
Go into your printer and router settings and give it a static IP address so this doesnt happen again.

Re: Wireless printer won't work unless I turn it off and on
Without sitting in front of it..... How about printing off a configuration sheet from the printer - Just need the network settings printed out. Then compare them with the settings in Mint. Sometimes if the printer is getting a dynamic ip it could change I would think. To me it sounds like the printe...

Re: Wireless printer won't work unless I turn it off and on
I have this problem on a clients brother mono toner printer. I think it has something to do with a sleep mode on the printer itself. I have not gotten into it yet though. You might check that?

domain naming for just a local network?
Hi Everyone :) Just a quick question here relating to domain naming. In the past I used to use *.local to name them. Now I understand that is taken on the WWW and I have to use something else. What should I use? It will not be a registered domain and will be private. It will be for file sharing in a...

Perhaps it would be better to just decide that its not really a problem - just an added feature?

Re: High Contrast theme --- LM Mate 20
Hello antikythera, Yes, I know about those themes but it seems it does not change everything to black and white. Then I sat down and thought about it and felt like a 'dumb bunny'. You cannot expect the theme to also cover other programs - lol. So, I started playing around and kinda worked it like th...

High Contrast theme --- LM Mate 20
Hello Everyone :) I have a friend that is pretty much blind as he has to be about 2 inches away from the screen to see things. I took him off centos7 and put him on LM 20 with the mate desktop. However, I need to get him into a "Hight Contrast" desktop. I assume that is where it is black a...

Re: kernel panic need to restore firefox data
What I do: Compress (zip) the .mozilla folder that you want to save. Save it as mozilla.zip Make sure firefox is closed and remove the existing ~/.mozilla folder. Unzip the saved mozilla.zip file in your home directory. Make sure that your ownership is correct (chown -R <user>:<user> .mozilla) Then ...

Re: Newly formatted WD 1T drive detected in Disks as /dev/sdc on the Mint 19.3 but not in file browser
1. Run a smart test on the drive first in 'disks'.
2. Wipe out and setup a new partition. I would not use mbr because you do not need a boot sector on it.
3. format as NTFS.

If your not planning on windows then do a ext4. I might be outdated but windows does not recognize ext4. You could do NTFS instead, That would be fine for a hard drive - I probably would recommend that.

As hapibeli said - check that you actually formatted after partitioning.
In disks click on the drive and use the menus that show just below it. If its not formatted click the gears button. If you are going to mount it click on the button with the black square.

Re: Newly formatted WD 1T drive detected in Disks as /dev/sdc on the Mint 19.3 but not in file browser
mount /dev/sdc mount: can't find /dev/sdc in /etc/fstab Because its not listed in your /etc/fstab file there are some options missing for the mounting. example: mount -t ext4 /dev/sdc /mnt/thedrive Need to know what format you are using and where to mount it. I just gave a quick example above. If y...

Re: Root Drive Full
Why not move your whole /home directory to the drive? This would free up probably a lot of room on the root (/) partition. 1. Copy whole /home directory to the other drive 2. Make sure permissions are correct for your home folder. 3. Edit fstab file and redirect /home to the other drive. I have mine...

Re: Buy Software or New Scanner
Before you go out and waste money why not post what issues you are having when installing the driver(s) and see if a bit of help from others can get this working? I downloaded the tar file package and attempted a configure/make and the make failed. It could not find itld.h which is available in a s...

Duncan,
Use "ls -l" instead of just "ls" so that it shows the file sizes and repost output.
