Re: PC Mag is now telling users about leaving Windows... For LM!

I spend my days working on Windows computers. Its such a drag as most problems I encounter are license issues and restrictions. When ever I get back to my shop I sit down to my Mint computer and it feels like this:

Re: How to fax with hplip

I dont know why places still use faxing. I see this in Hospitals / Doctors / Pharmacies / Law Offices / Governments. Seems a lot easier to just print to pdf and send via email. Well, Im sure there is some reason for it. Perhaps some laws governing security of data if you do it via email. Good Cartoo...

Re: How to fax with hplip

I've set up my HP Envy 5660 all in one printer with hplip and the printer and scanner are working fine. The HP tutorial says to select "send fax" to open the interface. I see no option like that in the hplip toolbox. So how do I send FAXs with hplip. New to Linux Mint I dont fax but found this: Ins...

Re: The Mint Café

The only reason many people don't succeed at anything is because they haven't tried or been given the encouragement to do so This is the whole crux of the problem. There are many people that tend to discourage you from obtaining (or at least trying) to obtain your dreams. What is interesting is tha...

Re: The Mint Café

Methinks you (and later posters) missed the point. I'm saying People with Down's Syndrome cannot accomplish things outside their capabilities, not that they can't be successful at anything, period. Sadly, there are many people who believe people can accomplish anything, no matter their abilities or...

My commiserations. ;) I'm blessed in that I have no "need" to indulge in "health foods". That said, I prefer Pepsi Max over Choke or the Pepsi equivalent. However, if that's your favourite poison, I'll not argue. :D Telling a Down's Syndrome child s/he can become, say, a theoretical physicist would...

...My Father always told me "You can do anything you want to do. You just have to want to bad enough"... I've always hated that statement because it is often simply not true! Not everyone has the ability to become a star athlete no matter how hard they try simply because of genetics limiting their ...

Re: "Smart" phones use and misuse.

Yes, Its a different world out there isnt it? People have changed. I installed a Bluetooth double din radio in my car. So, I can make and receive calls in the car as easy as changing a radio station. This solves a lot of issues for me. I cannot imagine not having one and using a cell phone in the ca...

Re: The Mint Café

First off, I want to assure you, coffee412 , that I did, in fact, thoroughly read your post; I did not breeze by it or through it. I'd love to respond, I really would, but I'm not going down that path because as it is, it's already borderline against board policy because of the political and politi...

Re: The Mint Café

Now at 47, I look back on decisions I made when I was a child, and on the very, very short list of good ones, not having children is still one I can agree with. Well, that's because you're still young at 47 and hopefully, with both of your parents still around. However, some day you might change yo...

Re: M$ selling snakeoil to Linux Users.

I just do not understand why there are so many users that just lap up the M$ juice. I would never want any of my personal documents stored on M$ servers or any others for that matter. This office365, To me, Is just a total data mining deal. I also see a lot of technical people (repair techs, I.T. pe...

The reason I came to linux was to get away from M$.

Stay the course!
You have a lot of company!

Re: M$ selling snakeoil to Linux Users.

Personally, I do not want some half-baked company that is only interested in advertising dollars and collecting personal private information to port their software for linux. Microsoft hates linux and its just an evil plot to destroy our way of life. MS doesn't want to destroy our way of life. It w...

Re: Hard time with rtl8812au

In the past I have always removed the current driver with modprobe. Then inserted the new driver with modprobe. The idea is that if the original kernel driver for your device is active then you need to remove it first before inserting your new one. Then in order to keep it that way after reboots you...

The problem now is i'm not able to add the dkms module. Can someone help me?
What error(s) are you getting when you try and add it ?

Also, Is there a reason your moving up to this kernel since your older kernel works fine?

Re: M$ selling snakeoil to Linux Users.

Perhaps we should have a separate thread on just how M$ gouges users? I do want to add my bit in though: M$ no longer stores the keys to M$ Office locally. This has been since Office2013. It only stores the last 4 digits. They want you to have a M$ dot com account and get your keys there. However, I...

Wow. Thats quite a write up. :) I also like the pictures of your Monastery. Very Beautiful. Glad your climbing aboard with Linux Mint. OK, I uninstalled nvidia-driver-435, rebooted, still no login screen. So, I installed nvidia-driver-430, just to see if that makes a difference. No dice, still no login screen. But I can still log in, by blindly typing my password. I have a second T490 (a co-worker's) that is experiencing the exact...
