Re: VirtualBox Error

The kernel module that loads at boot time is the wrong version for what version you have installed. I recommend that you uninstall VB and then re-install from the latest available. Im not sure you can but you might be able to export your VM to an appliance before uninstalling. Not having the driver ...

Re: Unable to set up Samba networking - need fresh start

Error received is: Unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server. No such file or directory. On your client machine that you are trying to get to the shares make sure you have samba-common installed. I know that just installing samba (apt install samba) does not install everyt...

Re: Accounting Software

Im terrible at accounting for my small business and have always kept an eye out for something linux based. I did try GNUcash some time ago and found that because of my lack of accounting knowledge it was somewhat difficult for me to use. Right now I run a VM of windows and have QBs running. There ar...

Re: Mint has a BIG Problem.

I used multibootusb and it works great. Never had such a problem.

With the size of flash drives now (Im using 16gigs) I also reserve a bit of user space when installing so that some things can be installed like TeamViewer or something so when I boot up the flash drive I have it available.

Re: Unable to set up Samba networking - need fresh start

Since your not involving Winders machines here I would totally suggest you use NFS instead of samba. Pretty simple. Lots of howtos available online on how to set it up.

Re: Can see my NFS share but not the files/folders inside it

It will work. Patience :) [/code] Since you can share folders from within your array..... what version of Mint and mdadm are you using? I'm using Cinnamon 18.3 and mdadm v3.3. The versions really do not matter. The problem is not actually there. Just to make sure here - Do you have nfs-common and N...

Re: LM account for sync

If all the computers where on the same network and wired (Im talking 1 gig network speed) you could set one computer up as your server and export the home directory to all the other computers via NFS. Therefore, When your on another computer you are still using the same home directory on the server ...

Re: Can see my NFS share but not the files/folders inside it

Leave your hosts.deny blank. Change your hosts.allow to: ALL:ALL Not that this would solve your problem but in your /etc/hosts file add your computers and their ip addresses. This will make things much easier in the long run for you. Install the program "nmap" which shows open ports on hos...

I am surprised that nobody mentioned Evolution e-mail client.

Last I saw was Evolution only had a mailing list. No forum. To me thats a turn off.

Re: I'm sick of FUD and misinformation regarding Linux Mint

I started using Linux when you had to compile your own kernel. You had to have a creative sound card and you had to write your own Xorg.conf file. I have risen up thru the ranks and kept at it to this day. I ve done slackware, Redhat, Debian, Ubuntu ect... However, I am not too proud to help others....

Re: Can see my NFS share but not the files/folders inside it

Ill just ask this: When you made changes to your NFS shares did you restart NFS for the changes to take effect? Yep. I made sure to execute the 'exportfs' command with -a and restarted the NFS server service and even restarted the entire computer. Nothing works. But when I carry out the exact same ...

Re: Can see my NFS share but not the files/folders inside it

When I have issues like this I normally open a term window and become root and check the permissions on the folders and files. My shares listing in /etc/exports is simple because I want to share with any device connected to my network: /mnt/raidbox *(rw,insecure,async,no_subtree_check) This gives m...

I dont have any bluetooth devices really to play with but I did see this in your log that might be your problem: [ 22.141289] bluetooth hci0: Direct firmware load for brcm/BCM.hcd failed with error -2 Basically, It looks like your firmware for your bluetooth (hci0) did not load. I was in the "Library" and I do visit /r/linux and go thru the posts. I did see this one just earlier today. I think that these are people that if you do not agree or do things their way then you are frowned upon. To me, They are some pretty weird people. Kinda like, If you do not eat your...

What exactly is rsync? I don't need to do things remotely. Rsync is a command line program that does exactly what you want done. It sync's changes between directories either locally or remotely. Its a fantastic program that is quick and efficient. Read up on it. Its very simple and runs from the te...
