Re: BitLocker for Linux Mint needed?
Secure boot is SUPPORTED on Linux. Bitlocker is not. Yes, Secure Boot is below the operating system level. Bitlocker is in the O/S. Ive never bothered with either. In fact, When I see it activated on windows boxes I work on and I have the time I turn it off. It just makes things more difficult when...

Re: BitLocker for Linux Mint needed?
@ coffee412 Thanks for your reply. I continued also searching last night and at the end I found an interesting document from Lenovo: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/Enable_Secure_Boot_for_Linux_Secured-core_PCs.pdf I also found an article (sorry lost the link) which says that with tu...

With the usb nic installed and booted up can you list your hardware profile? Then I can comment more on things. In my footer below is the command for listing your hardware profile. Simply copy it and paste it into your next post. Then highlight the pasted text and click the </> button above to make ...

Re: BitLocker for Linux Mint needed?
If your dual booting then first go into windows and turn off bitlocker. Then in bios turn off 'secure boot' and then install LM.
If just putting LM on the system then turning off secure boot should do it.

Re: LM 21.3 locked the PC when shutting down
Boot up and start the program 'disks' . Then in the right upper corner you will see the menu. Choose smart data and tests. Take a look at how many bad sectors there are. To me it sounds like your drive has hardware issues.

You might get more traction in the Virtualbox forums or OpenVMS if they have one.
I used to work on Dec boxes many, many years ago. I have forgotten all of it now.

Re: Error mounting - wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock, missing codepage or helper program, or other error
I also tried this... sudo fsck.exfat /dev/sda exfatprogs version : 1.1.3 checksum of boot region is not correct. 0xac52ffc7, but expected 0xea52ffd8 boot region is corrupted. try to restore the region from backup. Fix (y/N)? n Pick 'Y' and see. Cant really hurt as its the boot region. I would lau...

Re: Error mounting - wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock, missing codepage or helper program, or other error
I think the short answer is: I hope you have a backup. I think that the partition on it is royally screwed up. fsck.exfat will not fix that. At this point I would hook it up to a windows box and see if windows will recognize it. If it does then grab what you can off of it and then wipe it and put on...

Re: Error mounting - wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock, missing codepage or helper program, or other error
I bet something is wrong with the filesystem on the drive. What is odd is that /dev/sda1 does not exist. According to your hardware profile the drive is discovered as /dev/sda . However, The drive has a exfat partition on it and that should be /dev/sda1 unless it was improperly partitioned/formatted...

Re: Error mounting - wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock, missing codepage or helper program, or other error
So, The reason smart tests are greyed out is probably because you have the drive attached to the computer with USB2. I do believe that USB3.x has the ability to run smart tests. Lets see if we can manually mount the drive. sudo mkdir /mnt/test sudo mount -t exfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/test Does it mount? l...

Re: Error mounting - wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock, missing codepage or helper program, or other error
We need to know more about this drive. If you open up the program 'disks' and look at the drive - Do a screen shot of what the partitions look like on the drive. While you are in there run a smart test on the drive. In the right menu of the 'disks' program you will see the option for smart tests. It...

Re: VirtualBox 6..1 VM start error "Failedto create server socket"
Man, VMS. I havent seen that around for a very long time. I see openvms is available and there are some steps for setting it up in Virtualbox. I noticed that OpenVMS 9.2 is available with a lot of bug fixes. Didnt see a 9.1 . Perhaps you have seen this but here is a link to the install guide for VMS...

Re: Where do I get version information for included software?
A lot of software can be checked for versioning by issuing the command with a '-v' or '--version' This is again missing the point (and not anything I didn't already know). The goal is to have some organized manifest of the contents for a distro, that can be checked before installing. Something that...

Re: Call the next release - Mint 24
I have no problems with the versioning of Mint. I do not compare it to windows or anything else. I do not need them to match the year either. What happens if a new release is released in the middle of the year? To find out what version you are using you can go look in $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules...

Re: Escaping major Win virus. It nearly got into Linux Mint via Update
I have to kinda doubt that a virus that ran on windows would also run on linux. If I understand this right, You got "some unknown" software installed (i.e. this virus) when doing updates? If you post your hardware profile we can all see what repos you have active. That would be somewhere t...

You can go here:
http://packages.linuxmint.com/list.php?release=virginia
or here:
http://packages.linuxmint.com/
My thinking is that anything else is upstream at ubuntu and there should be a similar page. I just did a search for "Mint 23.3 repos"

Re: Signature font sizes
Hey Peter
In one of your other threads you mentioned "See my signiture at the bottom" for info on your laptop. I sat there and thought to myself "What signature???" lol. Took me a minute to realize how darn small it was.
Hope you get it fixed
