Re: Cinnamon won't load (just get wallpaper and mouse cursor

I use Cinnamon on Ubuntu 12.04. I recently installed MATE and have been using it for a while, but I wanted to log back into Cinnamon and I got the wallpaper/mouse problem. However, when I bring up a terminal (ctrl-alt-t) and run cinnamon --replace, the complete Cinnamon desktop shows up, but it goe...

Re: Proxy handling (Mint 13 MATE)

I've set up MATE in Ubuntu 12.04 (I switch back and forth between MATE and Cinnamon - I like them both). I've had proxy issues with whatever DE I've used in Ubuntu - Unity, Cinnamon, MATE - so it's not something that is limited to just the Mint community. I've done the following to make most things ...

Re: [SOLVED] Changing default File Manager

cygnus This is what I did: viewtopic.php?f=208&t=115611&p=648075#p648075 I followed those instructions and it worked. This is what I did (without removing nautilus): Open /usr/share/applications/defaults.list (as admin) search for the line with "nautilus" and replace with "ne...

Re: "Software Sources" will not open

SOLVED! Seems to be a confirmed bug in Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-properties/+bug/1062793 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/1053749 In order to fix it, you have to edit /var/lib/dpkg/status looking for the "incorrect" characters. In my ...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

I use Cinnamon on Ubuntu 12.04 and it literally transformed the whole distro. I don't like Unity very much, although I don't hate it as much as most people do. I've tried many other DEs on Ubuntu and I always go back to Cinnamon. The only reason why I haven't installed Mint is because I've already g...

Re: Screenshot app malfunctioning, Linux Mint 13 with Cinnam

cygnus, thanks for your report. as far as i can remember is the first time the issue is clearly identified as an interaction between cinnamon and the amd/ati drivers When I log out and log in using the standard Unity session, screenshots work as they should, with the save prompt. if you are willing...

Maybe it's because you're using Mint and I'm actually using Cinnamon on Ubuntu. Sorry if it's not a solution for you.

Re: Screenshot app malfunctioning, Linux Mint 13 with Cinnam

I'm having the same issue on Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS with Cinnamon 1.6.7 running FGRLX video drivers. Issue: I take a screenshot, and it creates and saves it in the ~/Pictures folder, but it's not a current screenshot. If I do the Cinnamon restart trick stated in an earlier post (focus on window you want...

Re: Default file manager in Cinnamon and Mate

What I did was go into /usr/share/applications and edit defaults.list (you need to have elevated permissions). For me, I had uninstalled Nemo to use Nautilus as I wanted to try RabbitVCS, which doesn't work with Nemo. I didn't like Rabbit so I uninstalled it, but Nautilus kept coming up as my defaul...
