Re: Cannot open .pdf files

Same happenning here: I have downloaded an important form I need to fill in from a French government website and when I try to open it I get the following message (in English!): To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest vers...

Re: What start up programs do I really need on Mint 17

Thanx again, Russell! If my fears are unfounded, let me know. I used to let my computers on all the time, but after I got the laptop I got paranoid from the Florida Power & Light corporate propaganda trying to sell me surge protection for $120 a year. Hi Dutty, If you put your laptop into hibernate...

No it isn't but I was just pointing out to the OP that there are other ways to get a fast start of his laptop. Does it bother you that I tried to be helpful?

Re: What start up programs do I really need on Mint 17

Why shutdown your laptop? I very rarely shut mine down - just go into suspend and it comes back in seconds when I open the lid. An alternative is hibernate which saves the current state to disk before shutting down completely. The restart is slower than from suspend but quicker than from shutdown. R...

[Solved] iPortal VPN on Mint Mate 17?

Hi I used to use iPortal VPN on Mint Mate 13 with no problems. After upgrading to Mint Mate 17 64 bit and installing network-manager-vpnc and network-manager-vpnc-gnome I get the VPN set up option on the network manager and have set it up but it won't connect. My connection settings have been verifi...

Re: No Sound: Laptop>HDMI>HD TV via LMM1732bit

On the sound preferences screen, have you tried changing the profile setting? I only get one entry on the hardware tab but in the list of available profiles there are a number of HDMI options. So I can select one for HDMI output. Unfortunately only HDMI or Analogue Sterio can be selected at one time...

Re: Draftsight problem

I've installed Draftsight succesfully using this procedure: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=103319#p585322 There is still a dependency problem that causes it to be uninstalled when a program is installed or updated. This can be eliminated by editing the /var/lib/dpkg/status file (as...

Re: Low disk space warning

O.K. found it :D I ran sudo du -hsx * | sort -rh | head -10 on the root directory and it showed 4.2 GB in /var. I worked down through the directories and found a 3.8 GB file in /var/spool/cups, deleted that and everything came back to normal including Dropbox which had stopped working as well. CUPS ...

Low disk space warning [SOLVED]

Hi I had a warning pop up to say that I had zero bytes free on my root partition. I have removed a couple of programs to get things working again but I'm seeing some strange reports. My installation uses a 9.3 GB partition for root with a separate 93 GB partition for /home. Both "df" at the command ...

Booting Mint Mate 15 with Legacy Grub

A friend has bought an Acer Aspire laptop with Windows 7 and would like to install Mint. We tried a normal dual boot installation. The install seemed to go OK but didn't install Grub properly leaving the machine just booting straight into windows. Tried a Grub repair disk but couldn't get anywhere. ...

Re: Confused connecting to existing smb network.

Thanks for the explanation. Android asked me for a user name and password when I first connected to the server.

The sftp entries came back after I rebooted the Mint machine.

Re: Confused connecting to existing smb network.

OK did chmod 777 filename on the server and it now works. Don't understand how it worked on Windows and Android clients though :?
Even more curious - the sftp entries have disappeared from the file manager :?

Thanks again,
Russell.
