Installer, emerald

I installed LMDE today to give it a go. So far it seems to be mostly working all right, though I had one issue with the installer, namely the fact that it would not let me install over more than one physical drive. This computer has two HDDs, and I had them set up so that the system partitions (/, /...

Re: switching keyboard layout

As far as i know, LXDE does not have a GUI tool for setting up or switching keyboard layouts. (This is one of those times I wish I knew how to program, so I could make one!) I believe the file you are looking for, which contains the XKB options, is now called etc/default/console-setup (instead of et...

Re: Problem with Linux Mint 9 LXDE and Greek Keyboard Layout

Γειά σου! Τί κάνεις; Now I removed the LXDE edition of Mint a few days ago to try out the Fluxbox edition RC, but I think that LXDE doesn't have a graphical tool for selecting the keyboard layout. Opening up a terminal and typing "setxkbmap gr" will change to the standard Greek keyboard layout. Also...

Re: Mint 9 KDE RC a dog

I installed the Mint 9 KDE RC on my spare box yesterday evening, and I had quite the opposite reaction. I think it's great. Boo did a great job!

OK, while I still think your idea of "minimum" is actually quite a bit ahead of reality, I don't want to get into an argument so I will just say that I'm envious of your hardware. I wish I had a machine like that!

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

Nothing spectacular here, just trying out the Isadora KDE RC, and haven't posted in a long while, so I figured I might as well share. Glassified theme, changed menu icon in the panel, smooth tasks widget in the panel instead of task manager widget, YAWP weather widget on the desktop, and obligatory ...

Re: Which instrument you like to play?

When I was a younger man, I was very into MIDI and synth programming. I still have all my keyboards, but I rarely have time to work with them anymore. I've hardly done any electronic music in years now. Currently, my instrument of choice, to which I devote what time I do have for music, is bagpipes....

Re: You want Newbie questions? I gots me some Newbie questio

Well, "Oldy" beat me to the punch while I was putting the kiddos to bed, but I'll still add a few comments. Before we start - I DID RTFM and have been Googling for two days, so save the attitude, okay? I'm brand new at this and need help. If you point me to an irrelevant "how to," you ain't helping....

Re: Terminal wireless accident

i don't know why a mistake in wireless configuration in Linux would make your hardware not work under Windows, but when you get a chance to get back on your laptop, what happens when you type "iwconfig" in a terminal? Does your wireless connection show up?

I'm really not trying to be a killjoy -- I'm waiting for Isadora KDE (and the other CEs) too -- but dude, the main edition just came out three days ago.

Will Mint 9 LXDE CE be LTS?

Hey Kendall, I was just looking at the Lubuntu homepage and saw that it said that unlike the rest of the *buntus, Lubuntu 10.04 is not LTS -- I guess it's still being considered a "beta" or something? Anyway, IIRC you wrote somewhere that Isadora LXDE is being based on Lubuntu, so I was curious as t...

Re: Way To Much Bloat In LXDE CE

I think you might be missing the OP's point a bit... I did understand what the OP was getting at; I just felt myself compelled to stand up and defend Lexie's honour from being impugned. :) it's like people who won't run KDE apps in Gnome... *sigh* I agree... I personally find that that sort of fanb...

Re: Way To Much Bloat In LXDE CE

So basically you're dissing Helena LXDE CD because you disagree with a couple of app choices? :| If I were a pendant (oh wait, I am! :)) I could point out that "Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment" says that the DE is lightweight... nothing in there about the apps running under the DE! However, Hele...

Re: I Want To Uninstall Firefox - BUT....

Out of curiosity, after reading the first post, I uninstalled firefox to see what would happen. I opened Synaptic and marked Firefox for complete removal. The only other thing it did when I clicked on "apply" was it also removed a java plugin, but that was it. It didn't want to install anything else...

Re: Noobie with questions, requests, comments......

Is there any way to permanently delete the 'My Documents' icon from desktop? (Yes, I've read suggestions re 'Preferences' in PCman, but I find I cannot alter my wallpaper once PCman desktop options are turned off. Is this a bug?) AFAIK the option under PCManFM preferences to manage the desktop inco...
