Getting Audacity to work, or alternative to Audacity?

Hello, I'm trying to record a live audio stream, i.e. me speaking. The only input device I have is a webcam with built-in microphone, which works great with Skype — I have no problems there, with either sound or video. However when I run Audacity, I've chosen it as my audio input device in preferenc...

Re: Changing icons in XFCE panel applets?

Wow, that’s a nice panel! I like your "bubbles". What GTK theme are you using, and where did you get the background image? Did you make it? Also, thanks for the tips regarding the icon folders. In particular I was wanting to change the icons for the wifi connection level, volume level, and logout (I...

Recording audio/video from Skype?

Hello, I was wondering if there's an application which can record audio and video off Skype calls. I'm taking music lessons with a teacher in Canada via Skype and it would be great to be able to record the sessions so that I can go back and watch them again later when I'm practising. Is there such a...

Conky config question #2

Hi, does anyone know if it's possible to set a background image for Conky rather than just a simple RGB color? I couldn't find anything about this in the documentation on the Conky site.

Re: Missing TaskBar

I managed to erase mine accidentally too! :) Right click on the panel and add "notification area" or "system tray" (depending on which desktop you're using).

If you're running 1600x1024, wouldn't it need to be 1600 pixels wide?

Re: Items on panel

Sounds like you removed the System Tray. I did that too, and I think I posted a question very similar to yours in this very forum not too long ago! :)
You probably just have to put the System Tray applet back in the panel.

Changing icons in XFCE panel applets?

OK, another annoying XFCE theming question. :D When I change icon sets under User Interface Settings, the desktop icons and menu icons change, but the panel applet icons (for example, the "actions" applet to log out/shutdown/etc.) do not. Is there any way to change these? I'm hoping that I could cop...

Re: GTK themes in XFCE?

OK, turns out that some themes I added do show up under User Interface Settings and Window Manager Settings, and others don't. Does that mean that their config file is maybe set up wrong or something?

Conky configuration help? [Solved]

Hello, I'm trying to configure Conky (under Elyssa XFCE CE) but I'm running into a problem with colors and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I want Conky's text to be in black on a grey background. Here is my .conkyrc file: background yes own_window no own_window_type desktop own_window_transpa...

Re: GTK themes in XFCE?

OK, so I was able to copy some GTK themes into the usr/share/themes directory, and they work fine. However, when I downloaded some xfwm window manager themes and copied them into the usr/share/themes directory, they do not show up under Window Manager Settings, even after logging out & back in, or r...

Re: How to edit ~/.xscreensaver

What I had to do when editing system files (in my case, keyboard layouts) was open the folder containing them as root and then I could modify the individual files and subfolders within. If you right click on the folder, an "open as root" option should appear somewhere in the menu that pops up.

Re: Linux Mint promotional graphics?

Are you accepting commissions? I'd love a Linux Mint "button" -— something like the sort of thing that you & Merlwiz have as your avatars, or something like the official logo at the top of the forum pages, but vertical rather than horizontal (e.g. logo, then "Linux Mint" underneath, then the ...

Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa Fluxbox Community Edition RC1

I've just installed Mint Fluxbox RC1 on an old IBM Aptiva with a Pentium II CPU and 128 MB RAM (which had been gathering dust in a closet!) and it WORKS! HUZZAH! Now I've just got to figure out how to use Fluxbox, as I've never tried it before and it's a little different. I also don't have an intern...

Re: Linux Mint promotional graphics?

Yes, that's the sort of thing I was looking for. The first link worked (thank you!) but the second one for the wiki page only gives me 404 errors, as for the poster above. A couple of further questions: What font is used for the Mint logo? And does mint have anything like the "[distro] Linux user # ...
