Re: Mint 8 & Ubuntu One

Why should there be a default service? Two reasons - there was a default service in the past, hence my thinking that maybe there will be one in the future (esp with Ubuntu having one). Secondly, having a default service would make it much easier to use for non-technical people. I take it you didn't...

Mint 8 & Ubuntu One

A quick question - will the integration with Ubuntu One be kept in Mint 8? I'm sorry if this has been asked before, the forum does not allow a search for Ubuntu One phrase...

Blank Password problem

Currently Mint4Win allows you to start the installation without putting in a password. But of course, then after restarting the installer stops with an error message about the lack of password and no way to provide it.

Re: Mint4win fail

You need to check the md5sum of the iso. If it's ok and you have burned it to a dvd, copy the mint4win.exe to the same folder as the iso. Then eject the cd and run the mint4win.exe. If there is anything wrong with the iso mint4win will download a new one. Make sure to select at least 6GB for the si...

Re: Mint4win fail

Just a thought Do you try to have two Mint systems with mint4win at the same time? There may be some conflict in the Windows startup files if you try that - I just guess, Windows has become something less familiar for me :) I'll ask around No, it's the only one... I tried again and MInt 7 installs ...

Re: Mint tool for adding new resolutions/refresh rates.

What you are suggesting is the automatic seatbelt method of entry, most people should be able to buckle up themselves, without an auto-magical help system It only sounds good on the surface; that is, at first blush, but when you consider what has to be done to provide the easy touch method for the ...

Well, that is really the question... whether somebody knows of a ftp service that is free.

Mint4win fail

Hi, Mint4Win does not install Mint 7 KDE for me, on the same machine using main edition it works just fine. Just in case I'm attaching the installation logs.

Papercuts for Linux Mint

Ubuntu is aiming at eliminating in the next edition at least 100 "papercuts", small annoyances that nevertheless hamper the overall experience. Maybe it would be a good idea to do the same with Linux Mint for the next edition? Here are a few proposals to start things off. 1 Installing Human Theme un...

Re: Emphasizing on LTS

I really hope Mint won't concentrate on LTSes... Regardless of my personal tastes, there seems to be a misconception that LTS releases are more stable. This is not really the truth, they are supported for a longer period of time and thus may eventually get more stable, but when released they are no ...

Re: Mint tool for adding new resolutions/refresh rates.

...well, if you have an nVidia card and load the latest driver, the nVidia X Server Settings GUI tool does just that, and also lets you set up a second monitor via a GUI. I'm not sure about ATI.... True, but there are plenty of people using Mesa (OSS) drivers, either by choice or because their hard...

Mint tool for adding new resolutions/refresh rates.

Currently if you want to add a e.g. refresh rate supported by your monitor by not detected automatically (pretty common with CRT monitors) you have to edit manually the config file. There are some web modline generators (e.g. http://www.arachnoid.com/modelines/ ) but still you have to add the genera...

I've always been a Windows user. I'm a noob at Linux, but I've always been curious. This is the first distro that has actually convinced me to install it. I played around with Felicia and was impressed... until my menu suddenly went berserk... but just in time for Gloria. Downloaded it, installed i...

Re: Linux Mint 7 "Gloria" released!

Out of curiosity - why hasn't Software Sources fix by merlwiz79 been integrated into Mint7? No? I have not checked - must be a mistake unless there are some side effects I don't know of (too many bytes for a CD maybe?) To be honest I have not checked it either, but it is still on the "known issues"...

Re: Future Mint 7 compatibility with Ubuntu

It's true, I installed the Human theme once, and it did remove all the mint artwork packages, but once completed, I just reinstalled all the mint packages, and they were able to co-habitat together. It's only an extra step you have to take to get them together, so it really isn't much trouble as I ...
