Why does Linux Mint not work, on this one machine ?

according to those pic's - the installer is trying to use SDA6 & not SDA4, for some reason.
- what happens, when you do proceed, with the option, in the 1st two pic's :?: which are the same pic. ..
try using a split of about 50/50 - you can still adjust that, later, if necessary.

Re: In Linux Mint 18.2 Mate 32 bit, how to use unallocated disk space?

that screen_shot does show a typical Ubuntu Install, & on that particular USB Stick, you can use the program Gparted, to create another /data partition, as SDb3 or SDb4 or even SDb7or SDb8 8) and thus use it as an /data partition for yet, another booted Usb Stick. NB: you are using LinuxMint /32bit ...

Re: automatic backup software

you can still continue with using that old version Macrium Reflect Boot Disk, & most probably forever, as well. it works well - so why change it ?. on the later versions of LinuxMint - there is an option to use TimeShift,, & which is similar to the Windows based System Restore program. some folks, w...

My main machine is an X4630G. No problem installing and running Mint. Originally set up as dual boot with Windows, now a dedicated Linux box. The other poster's suggestion about Gparted from a live usb is good.
so - on your machine - the installer did install alongside - correctly ?.

Re: Why does Linux Mint work when others don't?

so - Gparted is seeing that drive,, so what is the installer seeing? can you post some screen_shot(s) of the Installer's version of that drive? - use the drop box in the bottom left corner, to display that. from the appropriate screen, of course. also2: what happened when you chose the 'install alon...

Re: Mint install Freezes

then - can you try that CD on another machine's drive - as the CD drive may be flaky, as well.

if you don't have another machine to play with, then try using the 2nd option of the Installer Menu:
- using compatibility mode, to see if that makes any difference.

- it may have been more prudent to start an New Topic, rather than pursue this old one.

Re: This computer has 0 bytes left?

also note, that you should only need TimeShift to 'back-up', maybe Once a Week, or maybe Twice a Month:
- any more than that, may be unnecessary & also may use up your disk space.
