Re: Who hates MATE?

My favourite DE would be the one I take no notice of, so I can get down to the task of using my apps without distraction.
MATE is suitably vanilla enough for my tastes.

Re: Mint dependant on Debian rather than Ubuntu

Ubuntu does a lot of the "heavy lifting" in the desktop Linux world.
Love them or hate them, they've opened the doors for many people seeking alternative operating systems.

I've been a Linux user since before Canonical. I remember what that was like.

I think it's enough just to follow basic safety rules (do not use valuable passwords or email addresses to register on forums and etc )
But not just browsing their forums, but also following any advice or tutorials you find on that site.

I'd love to see more RGB hardware/software integration for controlling RGB peripherals, like gaming keyboards and case lighting.

https://www.linuxtechi.com/linux-mint-20-installation-steps-screenshots/ Umm, Step 2 says, "Copy the ISO image you’ve downloaded into the USB disk and make it bootable." That's a howling error. If he got that wrong, not interested in figuring out what else. Nando89, what you want to do is feasible,...

Re: I'm confused why there are so many video editors? Which do you use?

I suppose it's easier for some people to use pirated or cracked software, as they feel more comfortable going with the accepted "industry leaders".
Corporate propaganda has brainwashed many folks into believing that cost equals value.

If it's free, it can't be any good...right?

Re: You Tube hacking.

Don't, whatever you do, install bleachbit. It can, and probably will, kill your system. Also, there is absolutely no need to setup gufw if you are sitting behind a router that provides you with a local IP address and uses what is called NAT or network address translation. The local IP address space...

I use Ardour...it's not the easiest DAW, but I stuck with it and forced myself to learn it.
Traverso might be easier for someone just getting into it.

XFCE feels old.
KDE and Plasma feel like "a big box of spare parts".

MATE is the closest I can get to my all-time favourite DE...Gnome 2.

Can't trust the cloud.

Well, this isn't a specific rant about cloud storage, but... Over the last few months I've been reading stories about Youtubers that have had their channels taken down...or compromised...or shut down or some other incident... ...then followed up with a desperate plea video by the creator explaining ...

Re: [SOLVED] Install newer kernels manually?

Kernel upgrades aren't like Windows updates.
"Latest Bleeding Edge" is a Windows mindset that has crept into the Linux world over the years. I wish that wasn't the case.
