Re: Linux Mint cinnamon 64 17.1 kernel panics on fresh insta

I'm not a pro at solving kernal panics but I've experience them myself. I have a tri-boot system (all LInux). Of the three Linux distro's that I have, only one (Open Suse) has this kernal panic issue. I've Googled the issue and in my case, it might be due to a graphics issue. I figure it must be so ...

Re: rEFInd isntallation error: "cannot overwrite directory"

I am really interested in both helping as well as learning what you did as I am also having somewhat of the same issue though not to the same extent that your having. I still have Windows 8 installed and am not having much success in having any EFI capable Linux load up along with Grub2 not showing ...

Re: New EFI boot manager available: rEFInd

hi and thank you for your response Dngrsone. Is it appropriate for me to ask what work would entail on my part within this thread or is it best to open up a seperate thread entirely? If it is appropriate to ask within this thread, what work, step-by-step, would be required to get started? If not app...

Re: rEFInd isntallation error: "cannot overwrite directory"

HI. I don't know what the problem might be as I've also encountered that same message: Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot Device and press a key. However, have you checked your BIOS settings and selected the defaults? In case you have not, can you try to selec...

Re: New EFI boot manager available: rEFInd

HI. I recently purchased a Dell xps 15 9530 with very little success in being able to boot grub after install of LM 17 and Antergos. There are various guides available throughout the net. I was wondering if it's possible after install of LM 17 in which grub is for some reason not installed and inste...

Re: How to add desklets to cinnamon desktop

Hi WinterTroubles. Terribly sorry, my bad. Yes, I have MATE running on Linux Mint 17. My bad entirely. The Cinnamon in the subject line I edited out and replaced. Regardless, you mentioned that there isn't a way to add Desklets while running Mint 17 under Mate. Why is that so, if I may ask? Can a us...

How to add desklets to MATE desktop on Qiana

Hi, I am running the latest Mint desktop- MATE. I have Googled a bit to try to find how to have appelets and desklets start automatically. For instance, according to cinnamon spices @ "http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/desklets" I am to place desklets in .local/share/cinnamon/desklets. No problem...

Installing Shadowgrounds.iso

Hi. I have done a quick search on the gaming sub-forums to see if there are similar problems that have been encountered previously with installing the Linux version of shadowgrounds. But unless I have missed something, I don't believe that I have found anything that is related. My problem is with tr...

Re: /usr/bin/mint --fortune: no such file (No GUI interface)

got in via Startx. should have known this to begin with. Duh. did an update and miracolously, I got back what must have been deleted last time for some unknown reason. Finally managed to get the graphical interface too. Relogged out and back in. I have no idea what was going on now. All I saw was a ...

Re: /usr/bin/mint --fortune: no such file (No GUI interface)

Update: tried doing

Code: Select all

sudo service lightdm restart
No go.
Still don't have a GUI to both login as well as to work with. Only get the textual interface and that's all.
Still looking at getting this resolved.

Hi. Firstly, I hope that the above title is correct. I was unsure of what correct Subject to post this tread at. Secondly, I have Googled around the net for the current challenge that I am facing. I have also looked around this board to see if there is anything that is somewhat related; however, the...
